Happy Sunday to ya—overnight, Toho released a new Godzilla Minus Zero trailer for you to wake up to.
Like other trailers, this one balances the terror of Godzilla and King Ghidorah’s rampages across Japan with the human drama of the returning cast and new faces. Early on, ex-kamikaze pilot Kōichi flies past a woman stranded in her home as it’s floating in the sky, and the camera makes sure to show it falling back to the ground. Godzilla Minus One was praised for its human drama, and it looks like there’s more of it in the sequel: more people caught in the crossfire, more stress when plans fail, more of folks scared they have to do this a second time.
Interestingly, the trailer takes a bit of time building intrigue about Kōichi’s wife, Noriko. When Godzilla attacked Ginza back in Minus One, she was revealed to have survived after pushing Kōichi to safety, albeit with a black bruise on her neck. Here, a doctor notes that she had “no business surviving” that attack, and Kōichi and Noriko are similarly devastated when he tells her “they know all about it.”
Let your theories start brewing as Godzilla Minus Zero stomps closer to its November 6 release—or earlier, if your local AMC Theaters gets it on November 3, aka Godzilla Day.
