As this brand-new trailer for The Odyssey makes quite clear, we are just two weeks away from a movie fans have been salivating over for a long time. The latest action epic from Christopher Nolan comes with God-like expectations, and soon, we’ll know if it lives up to that or not.

Ultimately, the success of The Odyssey will come down to one thing: if the movie is actually good. And, in this new trailer, we’re reminded of the key ingredient to that. The Odyssey isn’t just going to be nearly three hours of swords and sandals in full IMAX. There’s a story. A very poignant, emotional story not just of a man trying to get home, but of a family trying to keep the home together. Check out this excellent new trailer for The Odyssey.

As Matt Damon’s Odysseus makes his way back from the Trojan War, we see that many in his home of Ithaca have given up on him. They believe the King to be dead. And so as we watch Odysseus struggle to make it home over many, many years, his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland) also struggle to keep hope alive at home. Unfortunately for them, they have to fend off people like Antinous (Robert Pattinson) who will stop at nothing to take the throne. All of which is given a bit more light in this trailer than the previous ones.

Can or will The Odyssey live up to the expectations everyone has put on it? Well, to answer that, we can look at Christopher Nolan’s filmography. Even the few times he hasn’t made a universally beloved film (and it is just a few times), there’s still plenty to take from it. You can hate Tenet because it doesn’t make a lot of sense, but wow, if it isn’t a big, bold, original swing. The Dark Knight Rises pales in comparison to his previous two Batman films, but it still delivers spectacle that’s rarely topped.

We think The Odyssey, with its star-studded cast, will deliver. And we all get to find out in two weeks when The Odyssey opens on July 17.
