Adobe is updating Photoshop to let you create 3D-printable files within the program. Hooray!
The update is available today for free for existing Creative Cloud subscribers, or for $50 for new sign ups. It converts models into STL, OBJ, 3DS, Collada and KMZ files. These files can then be exported to a MakerBot machine, outsourced to Shapeways another online printing service, or uploaded to Behance for anyone else to see. Pretty simple, if you are at all familiar with the process of 3D printing.
And it makes 3D printing all the more accessible for us regular people. Until now, 3D modeling has been kind of a pain in the ass. You have to buy, download, and learn very niche software to draw up your creations. But now you can do all that within the comfort of Photoshop, a program you might own and probably already have at least a very basic grasp of.
