We like the HTC EVO, which means we're pained that it isn't getting Android 2.2 Froyo just yet. BUT WAIT. You can manually install it, "unofficially", if you root the phone.

Here is a video of the EVO being rooted. And here is a video of Froyo 2.2 running on the EVO. By rooting the phone, you can install custom ROMs and boot into custom recovery environments. It's not for the average (or even above average) user, but if you're that anxious into getting 2 to 5x more performance from your phone, here's a tutorial. in going to 2.2, do you lose any functionality besides the sense interface?

I'm assuming you won't have all the sprint pre-installed apps, but could you get them back? I actually really like my NFL mobile live, and youtube HQ looks kinda cool.
