This German helmet, from the mid-16th century, has a rather unusual adornment on its mask. Was the wearer known as the Cock Knight?

The six-pound, six-ounce helmet resides in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Arms and Armory Collection. The museum includes this description:

This helmet is remarkable for the three-dimensional figure of a rooster’s head in the center of the visor, which is an outstanding example of sculpture in steel and is unprecedented even among mask visors.
