Sinister Six

At the Toronto International Film Festival, Andrew Garfield revealed that he knew a lot about the upcoming Sinister Six spinoff:

I know more than I'm allowed to say right now. I can say I'm really excited about Drew Goddard, who's going to be writing and directing The Sinister Six movie. And whether I'm involved in that or not is kind of immaterial.

The "immaterial" bit is interesting, as Garfield isn't flat out denying his presence in the film. This is being interpreted as a hint that Peter Parker may have a role in the film. How big or small is, of course, just speculation. As is anything at this point, really. Garfield went on to give a bit of explanation of why he's not talking:

"I don't know if I should say anything right now. But Drew is really exciting. Did you see Cabin in the Woods? Did you like it?"

We did see it and we did like it, although we wish we'd known less about the movie going in, as it would have heightened the surprises and twists.

"Exactly," Garfield said with a grin. "Hence, me not telling you s—- about that."

Avengers 3

Here's a giant rumor: the wrestling site PW Mania says that Dave Bautista is in the process of "restructuring" his Marvel deal to include both and a "significant" part in The Avengers 3. Accompany this with all the grains of salt — but the question remains: is it just Drax that Marvel wants to include, or (probably more likely) the whole Guardians team? [PW Mania via Slashfilm]

Ted 2

Morgan Freeman is joining the cast of the movie, which is currently filming in Boston. Details are, as ever, sparse, but Freeman is apparently playing "an iconic civil rights lawyer who comes into the picture when Ted needs to resolve some legal issues." Bear discrimination, maybe? [Variety]

Agents of SHIELD

Looks like we finally know the answer to what Hayley Atwell will be doing in the Agents of SHIELD: It's a flashback with Dum Dum Dugan (Neal McDonough) and Jim Morita (Kenneth Choi). TV Guide says the flashback will "kick off" the season and has this quote from EP Jed Whedon:

Coulson is a big student of history and wants to return to those old ideals of Agent Carter's time. He's, like, 'Let's be the S.H.I.E.L.D. we were meant to be!' He wants to do the job right this time.

Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen spoke with Comic Book Resources about adding new characters to the show, including Mockingbird:

Tancharoen: Well, we're very excited to have the beloved character, Mockingbird, on the show. Adrianne Palicki was a perfect fit for the role. She was someone we pictured from the beginning. It's thrilling to have a nice, sort of skilled, sexy spy in the mix. And I think with the handful of characters that we have added to the show, it's just to illustrate what the new S.H.I.E.L.D. may look like. Coulson is operating with limited resources, so he has to bring people into the fold. So it may feel like we're expanding a lot, but really, the people that you will see are basically the people we have at our disposal.

Whedon: We used to be a ragtag group in a huge machine that was churning. Then, they were agents who had support. Now, that we have less, we sort of see all of them. So while our cast is getting bigger, it's actually because S.H.I.E.L.D. is getting smaller, we're using every resource we can.

A character like Mockingbird — similar to Deathlok last season — is also a significant marquee character that you guys have been able to get your hands on. Tell me what got you excited about playing with a character that could have easily gone to the cinematic side of the universe?

Whedon: Well, obviously, we all exist in one universe, and if we didn't, we could have any character we wanted. We could kill them and do what we wanted with them. It is nice that we're all in one universe, so when we get something, it does have weight. It does exist in the Cinematic Universe and we're in constant communication with features, and there's a database of what they're using, what they plan to use, what we can and can't use. We just try to carve out our little spot, and Mockingbird's a good example of someone who we can really lean on as a major character.

Tancharoen: Right. And in the Marvel Universe everything is fluid. The show was basically born out of what has been already established in the Cinematic Universe, so as much as we have benefitted from having characters that you've seen in the film[s] appear on our show, there is always a possibility for the reverse. So we do think that all our characters have potential to crossover at some point and there's always that possibility, and Mockingbird is a nice, exciting new character for us to have that does have crossover potential.

They elaborated on the character played by Henry Simmons and the new villains:

Whedon: [Simmons is] another new face. He's going to show sort of the — one of the things that we're doing is that now that all of S.H.I.E.L.D. is sort of under one roof, you see parts of it that you wouldn't necessarily have seen last season. And he represents that. He's a mechanic. He's sort of the hands-on, blue-collar aspect of S.H.I.E.L.D. that we didn't get to see much of last year.

And you've got some known names from the villainous side — Kraken and the Absorbing Man. Tell me what you've got in mind for your bad guys in Season Two.

Whedon: We will not! We will not tell you a thing! Yes, we have some very fun characters to play with, and as you said, some known actors filling those roles. So we're thrilled with what we've been able to pull off so far, and with the footage coming in, we think the audience will be pleased.

Tancharoen: Either way, I think everyone saw that towards the end of the last season, we were very much living in a serialized version of the show, or just we were diving into serialized aspects of it. And Season Two will be starting with from that point and answering a lot of questions that we queued up through the season and at the end of Season One.

American Gods

Den of Geek spoke to Bryan Fuller about the Starz adaptation of the Neil Gaiman novel. Fuller made a commitment on casting:

In our conversations about who our ideals are for specific roles, Shadow is described as… is he a gypsy? Is he Hispanic? Is he black? Or is he all of those things in one? So we know that he is not white! I think if we cast a white man to play Shadow we would be the biggest assholes on television.

Fuller than talked about where they are and what the plans are:

We've broken the first three episodes, Michael Green and I, and we're having so much fun. It's such a different muscle to Hannibal. There's a big, bold, sprawling world that is at our fingertips that is going to be so much fun to explore.

... It's fun to platform the world and say to Neil [Gaiman], okay, if these are the rules of this universe that you've created, then it would also apply in these circumstances. That's been great for Michael and I because we're recognising the rules and then also allowing ourselves to navigate those rules and expand the story in a fun way where those rules are supporting a greater, grander world than you're able to see in the novel.

Is the plan to go beyond a single season then?

Yes.

... One of the fun things about the television series we're crafting is that for every moment that takes place, there are alternate points of view of that moment so we will see an episode that is primarily from Shadow's point of view, and then the next episode will be primarily from Wednesday's point of view, and then the next episode will be primarily from Laura's point of view so there's a fun to point of view when you're adapting a novel like this, because it gives you the freedom to expand the world and the characters.

Teen Wolf

Executive producer (and frequent director) Russell Mulcahy says that Monday's finale isn't necessarily the end of the Argents' story, because there's always the possibility for them to return. He also says that Mason will be more "in the know" about the supernatural happenings as the show moves forward. In vaguer terms, he talked about a few more plot points:

Will [Braeden's] hunt for the Desert Wolf remain her top priority moving forward?

It could be. Next season is going to be a real eye-opener. We haven't done too much planning, but from the hints I've heard of what's to come, it's going to be a really cool, interesting season.

The other mystery is what Parrish is. Do you know what he is?

[Laughs] I don't. I think they're still going through the bestiary, trying to figure it out. He obviously seems to be impervious to fire, and he has a good amount of strength. I don't think he's even aware of what he is yet.
