There’s no shortage of Star Wars news today, but we hesitate to even label this bit of information “news.” Of course people are going to be streaming Star Wars media on May the Fourth. However, the titles of choice drawn from May 4, 2025, do offer some surprises.
According to Nielsen data from Disney+ shared by the Hollywood Reporter, last year’s Star Wars Day had one clear streaming champ: Andor. At the time, the Emmy- and Peabody-winning series starring Diego Luna and Stellan Skarsgård was in the thick of its second and final season, with its first two episode blocks releasing April 22 and April 29, 2025. So you can assume fans were not only watching the new releases; they were also revisiting Andor‘s acclaimed 2022 first season too.
Second on the list brings it all back to the beginning with 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. That feels right. Many fans from across all demographics would want to revisit George Lucas’ original film on this day of mass nostalgia.
That’s followed by a mix of original trilogy and prequel trilogy titles: The Phantom Menace, The Empire Strikes Back, Revenge of the Sith, Attack of the Clones, and Return of the Jedi. At number eight was Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the movie that first introduced Andor‘s protagonist and sets up that series.
Then, at nine and 10 were a pair of animated shows: the then-brand new Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld (which dropped all of its episodes May 4, 2025) and the long-running Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which wrapped up in 2020.
What’s missing? The absence of the sequel trilogy is pretty glaring, but it’s still surprising to see—in an era of Star Wars so dominated by Disney+ streaming series—fans were still by and large revisiting the feature films, at least on Star Wars Day.
Disney might also not love the fact that The Mandalorian, which has had three seasons so far across 2019-2023, was absent from the top 10, considering the franchise has a lot riding on May 22’s return to the big screen with The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Are you streaming any Star Wars today—and if so, what are your May the Fourth viewing choices?
