The ESA Wants To Clean Up Space Trash Using These Fishing Nets

How will we clean up the giant (and steadily increasing) trash vortex that swirls around our little blue planet? Perhaps by harpooning it with these space fishing nets.

The European Space Agency has been experimenting with shooting woven fishing nets out of air cannons in zero gravity, an experiment that you can see them conducting quite successfully below.

They're not the only space agency experimenting with the idea of nets as the best means for a space clean-up; Japan's agency, JAXA, has also been floating the idea. But ESA's plan now comes with an actual date — they say they plan to launch space testing in 2021.
