The Evolution Of Robots In Movies and TV

Science fiction movies and TV shows don’t really count unless they have iconic robot characters. That’s a completely true statement, by the way. Nobody cares how good a story is unless they can pretend living in a reality where sentient robots, awesome droids, and fun little machine pals exists. We want to live in the future where Roombas go on adventures with us! Artist Scott Park illustrated all our favorite robots from movies and TV shows—think R2-D2 and HAL 9000 and Optimus Prime and Johnny Five—to show the evolution of these synthetic characters.

Cool but the dates may be off on some. The Borg in Star Trek: TNG are one example.

The show started in 1987 but the Borg were not introduced until 1989 and Locutus was first shown in 1990.

Also seem to be missing some. Daleks 1963 and Cybermen 1966

If we are going to robot nerd, we need to robot nerd accurately.

(You could also make a case for Locutus not being on the list at all because cyborgs are not robots. But that may be a bit too nit picky.)

OH Dear God in Heaven you left off one of the most famous Robots of all time. One that appeared in over 30 Tv shows and Movies.

Robby the Robot 1956
