Here we go again. Almost 11 months after IMAX surprisingly sold select tickets to Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey, more tickets are going on sale this week. According to posts on social media, the “largest screens” will go on sale at noon EST on Thursday, June 4.

Considering Nolan’s film is the first feature ever to be entirely shot in the IMAX format, we assume “largest screens” means tickets for IMAX screens are going on sale. Plus, a special 70mm presentation in Los Angeles is going on sale tomorrow, too. So, we think at the very least, most premium formats will be on sale at that time, with general tickets going on sale if not simultaneously, then soon after. io9 has reached out to Universal Pictures for clarification and will update this post if and when we hear back.

In 2025, exactly one year before The Odyssey was set to open, IMAX pulled a little stunt in which it sold tickets to a select number of screenings in 70mm IMAX locations. These are the only locations that will show Nolan’s film in its biggest, truest format. Showtimes sold out instantly and left many, many fans angry and anxious. However, that was just a single showtime a day over opening weekend. Showtimes before and after were not made available because Nolan hadn’t finished the movie yet. Now, those will go on sale.

There’s little doubt that 70mm IMAX tickets for The Odyssey will be among the most sought-after movie tickets, maybe ever. Especially for the first few weekends. With only a handful of theaters across the world able to play the film in the format, and only a select number of showtimes per day, its very possible that entire runs will sell out every seat for every showtime. For comparison, in Los Angeles earlier this year, one theater showing Project Hail Mary in 70mm IMAX was selling out shows early in the morning and late at night right up to the date the film had to be pulled.

The Odyssey, however, has had these screens reserved for months. And, it should have exclusive reign on basically every IMAX screen, 70mm and otherwise, through its opening on July 17 through at least mid-August. So even if you can’t see it in 70mm IMAX immediately, you have a few weeks.

Tickets go on sale wherever you buy your tickets, and we wish you the best of luck.
