New York Comic-Can gathered the cast of The Walking Dead together only to make them cry and promise to break all our hearts again in what will be an absolutely "devastating" year.

The zombie gang came to New York and with them they brought footage of the new season (which you can watch RIGHT NOW).

But they also brought a lot of drama. Here's the highlights from the panel and what it may tell us about next year!

  • Greg Nicotero promised that, "This season will pick up right where we lift off. When Rick is in the train car in the end of season 4 and he says 'They don't know who they are messing with' we get to pick it up right after there. I've seen it 10 times and I still get chills." Specifically addressing the hardcore, new season opener.
  • What flashbacks are we going to see? More, but no one would specify who. Scott Gimple confirmed the flashback but reinforced the idea that it would be set in the recent past. There would be some "deep dives" but Walking Dead is kind of centered in the present, so any flashbacks aren't going to be in the 1970s.
  • Gimple threatened, "Some episode will just be devastating.... "Devastating." Kirkman agreed, "Yeah really devastating, we're not kidding.... sorry." He didn't seem sorry.
  • When asked to rapidly sum up the new season exec producer Gale Anne Herd called it, "Kick ass, utterly relentless and totally heartbreaking."
  • There was an official Season 5 announcement. The second half of the season will premiere on Sunday Feb. 8th. And internationally Fox international channels it will launch on Monday Feb. 9th.
  • Main character Andrew Lincoln was super excited to get back to kicking ass. He's happy to have bad ass Rick back! "It's about time I was sick of farming, sick of those pigs." This season he's, "been listening to a lot of Prodigy and Death Metal." If that's a clue as to his character's mood.

  • Lincoln had this to say about the famous throat ripping scene from the last season. "I remember phoning Mr. Gimple up and saying we've alway been very responsible are we stepping over it at this point? And like most of the decisions, my dear friend was absolutely right. They were about to violate my son !It made complete sense. It [my teeth] was the only thing available to me at the time, my teeth and I have particularly bad, British teeth. So they work particularly well."
  • Michael Cudlitz has REALLY red hair now. Which is great for his character Abraham.
  • Spoiler Alert, actresses Melissa Suzanne McBride (who plays Carol) cried through most of the panel. So.... yeah goodbye Carol.
