Watching 252 Space Blankets Inflate, Dance and Crumple Is Fascinating

I don't know what it is, the crackles you hear when the space blankets inflate and deflate, the pulsating lights that shine down, the feeling that this is all some sort of robotic farm, it's all just so fascinatingly futuristic.

The whole show is called 'Captured' but each of the inflatable space blankets, and there are 252 of 'em covering 130 square meters, are powered by eight CPU cooling fans. And one single Arduino board controls all 2016 fans but each bag could still be controlled independently. The exhibit, and it's almost more like watching us farm for robotic parts, was made by Nils Volker and graphic designer Sven Volker at MADE Space in Berlin. [Nils Voelker via Creative Applications]
