Macs tend to have a high resale value that outpaces PCs with similar specs and age. But this MacBook Pro on eBay looks like it was literally beaten with an ugly stick before being left to rot in a vat of orc piss, and the dude's still asking $1295 (more than a brand new MacBook). For that, you get a 17-inch Core 2 Duo Tiger-based MBP that's covered in rust, missing the battery and plagued by a bum screen.
Granted, it comes with Windows XP and all the Adobe software—Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc.—you could ever want, but this thing still makes Blam's sorry, battered MBP look like a supermodel. If you think real beauty's on the inside and are still interested, get clicking, 'cause there's only a couple hours left on the auction.

This is why we can't have nice things.
wow, it looks like he marinated this thing in said orc piss and molasses overnight and tried to bar-be-que it the next day... love how he says "it doesn't make the laptop look great cosmetically on the outside". understatement of the month.
Is this guy smoking crack? $1295 is wayyyy too much.
this guy should be beat for treating his mac like this
The seller is an asshat for asking that much. Though I guess the bigger asshat would be anyone who seriously bid on this.
The rust doesn't make sense as the top case is aluminum.
While the seller is being honest, I would go as far as to say that they are completely forth coming.
I would guess that this was caused by water damage. That the battery was a casualty, and that either by luck, or a lot of cleaning with DI water and alcohol (coupled with luck) that the computer still worked.
Did he set it on fire or something? How does a MBP get this damaged?
Perhaps some kind of industrial solvent or something? I'm guessing the aluminum is anodized so something has absolutely destroyed it. I doubt it was water damage.
I sent a question asking what he did to it.
Obviously, he needs a sturdy notebook, not a macbook pro.
Still, I have never seen a notebook beaten up that much.
People buy Macbooks because they are beautiful and stylish.
I wonder if this guy would be able to sell it even for like 500 bucks. :P
Modders maybe.
Rusting Aluminum?
Aluminum shell my ass.

It isn't as bad as it looks. The weird rust is bad, but as for the battery, it looks like he just never used a battery with it.
It also has like $500+ in software on it...
Look at the pic to see a really mistreated laptop. It fell 3 stories. Hard drive survived =)
HE'S RUNNING WINDOWS!!!!!!
It's definitely been abused somehow. He mentions there are light vertical lines on the right hand side of the screen. Usually that means logic board or LCD damage, which, if you want to get repaired through Apple, is the top tier "accidental damage" price, somewhere around the $1300 he's asking for this computer. Ugh.
I understand there is plenty of value left in it and I'm also a Mac fanboy but I can honestly say that that price is a way too high. A lot of the reason for buying a Mac is the way it looks and this kinda kills that. Maybe if I was super rich I would buy it and replace the messed up stuff but then it would probably still cost more than a new one would.
Not really the biggest problem I know, but don't mbp's throttle down if you use them without a battery? It sucks enough that it looks awful, but it's not even running at proper speed!
Why is the Apple logo backwards?
Right. It's not. I am an idiot. Sorry.
Sold!
*snorts coke. chases with Pop Rocks and tequila*
That thing looks like it could give you hepatitis.
I bid a dollar. No, make that 50 cents.
Aluminum corrodes. Aluminum does not rust.
He uses the term 'loaded' when it comes to the software. I don't see photos of boxes or master CDs.. I suspect his software offering was created by downloads.
Is the Apple logo upside down because that Mac is in distress? Kind of like the flag :) ?
C'mon. The "rust" improves its value, making it bonafide Steampunk.
i honestly think that by the looks of it the whole rust thing was done on purpose. its got that kind of purposely beaten up look that certain brand named clothing often has.
@Daniel:
heh...yeah...but are they they legal copies of the software?
I bought a 15" MacBook Pro (2.16GHz Core2Duo) off of Craigslist that was a month old with the original receipt for $1300 from some dude who really, REALLY needed the money for his rent.
Although that has nothing to do with this story.
If you want it, you'd better act fast, the auction ends in about 12 minutes.
The seller has quite a few shady dealings as you can tell from his feedback.
i guarantee you have never seen anything more disgusting in any macbook than i have. :P
in refurb, ive opened up ones that i couldnt tell if it was syrup or cum, coffee, perfume, or piss!
This looks similar to something that landed in the toilet after eating Taco Bell earlier in the week.
I guess he thought it was a silver cookie and he digested it a bit O.o.
I actually like how the top looks, I'd pay money to have *just* the top made that way...but not all the other damage.
Besides, laptops go to me to die, and I still can't get my MBP 17' to look distressed. I wanna e-mail this guy for help.
@LindsayJoy: A 17 foot macbook? My god, is it the leader of the the giant wi-fi router army?
This exquisite farm-raised, organic MacBook has been lightly toasted and topped with a delicate battery-acid vinaigrette for the distinguishing user.
Sweet steampunk laptop! I'm in for one!
Wow...I mean, LOOKING beat up, and actually BEING beat up are two completely seperate things. This is crap.
if you check out his feedback, he sells used electronics. $5 says this stuff is hot.
I loved this one particular negative feedback. "The charger was broken and generic There were still several nude pics in phone."
or this one
"too much time, all the content of the package is ugly"
I figured it out. I was smuggled into and out of prison.
The battery must have been with another "courier".
Bad mistake. It should have read

Now everybody knows history. One typo can equal death.
My question:
Dear fxulla,
What did you do to it?
- joshg400
His reply
Dear joshg400,
Its in good working condition just has a few issues with it

@jackfrost132:
okay, a 17'' typo, get over it!
A mac that isn't pretty enough to display in Starbucks and is running windows....that's not going to go over well.
@dead_red_eyes wrote: "Is this guy smoking crack? $1295 is wayyyy too much."
It looks like he used it to cook his crack on.
My guess is this thing was stolen or was part of the trade for lacking cash for the crack he was buying.
(not to imply the seller is a drug user, but there's too much details that he is not telling about how it got to be in this condition)
@11hawkinst:
I saw one at the ChumpUSA going outta biz sale that looked worse and they wanted $100 off retail. Umm, yeah, right.
I can tell you what almost certainly happened: CAT WHIZ. The thing was lying flat on a surface and a cat whizzed next to it. Cat whiz is the most caustic naturally-occurring substance on earth... it will corrode stainless steel, laugh at anodized aluminum and will eat gold and silver for lunch.
Oh, and by the way: "scammers don't bother."
I'm guessing it's stolen. Look at his other auctions. They are all used items which could be easily stolen from cars. Looks pretty suspicious. Is there any way to report possibly stolen merchandise to ebay?
@B: AHAHA
At lease the guy was smart to put xp not vista but if it is mac why would you want a microsoft os.
Looks like this person should be using a Panasonic instead.
Tempest in a teapot.
(Which I think is also where that thing was stored by the way.)
