It’s the awards season time of year, and last night was the 2024 Annie Awards. And one of the big winners at the animation-focused ceremony was Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The 2023 sequel took home seven awards, including Best Picture, Best FX, Best Music, and Best Character Design. It, along with fellow nominees Nimona and The Boy & the Heron, are also up for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards in March.

Outside of Spider-Verse, Marvel took home an award for Best Character Animation for film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, video games (Marvel’s Spider-Man 2), and TV (Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur). Moon Girl also won for Best Voice Acting and Storyboarding in the TV categories.

Another big winner was Blue Eye Samurai: the Netflix series received wins, including Best Writing and Editing with its fifth episode, “The Ronin & the Bride,” Best Character Animation (for episodes 1, 4, and 6), and Best Mature TV for its pilot.

This one isn’t an award, but noless important: Eric Bauza, current voice actor for Bugs Bunny (and who’s voiced plenty of characters in recent years) took to the stage to demand Warner Bros. Discovery release Coyote vs. Acme. “I hate to be political,” he said as Daffy Duck, but “release [it]!” He later said on Twitterthe film’s existence has evolved into “a battle for the integrity of these legacy characters. The Looney Tunes will never reach today’s younger audience if we keep stopping the creative process for tax cuts!!”
