If it’s a big pop culture convention, Star Trek is going to be there—and New York Comic Con didn’t disappoint, bringing the legendary William Shatner to the stage to mark the sci-fi franchise’s 60th anniversary with clips and conversation hosted by actor and filmmaker Ben Stiller.
Looking to the future, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy—one of just two shows left in the current Paramount+ era, alongside Star Trek: Strange New Worlds—shared some teases of its upcoming second and final season. That included the exciting news of two big guest stars: Bill Nighy and Rosemarie DeWitt.
Nighy comes aboard to play Nyk Ake, the estranged father of Holly Hunter’s Nahla Ake; DeWitt is Laytha Sadal, the First Lady of Betazed—mother of Zoë Steiner’s cadet character, Tarima Sadal.
“Season two of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy follows our cadets into their second year aboard the USS Athena,” reads a Paramount+ press release. “There, their ideals of leadership, friendship, romance, and morality are put to the test as they navigate budding rivalries, shaky diplomatic negotiations, a fiercely competitive schoolwide tournament, and the arrival of a mysterious new cadet whose existence raises questions that could have consequences far beyond the classroom.”
The “mysterious new cadet” was announced at San Diego Comic-Con; his name is Keats, and he’s played by Ruaridh Aldington.
Paramount+ also shared some season two images, including glimpses of Nighy and DeWitt.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy returns to Paramount+ in March.
