Surprise! China's Porn Filter Has Political Opinions

The weirdly naive Green Dam-Youth Escort web filter project, which was almost certainly initiated because a government official caught his kid looking at really weird porn on time, doesn't just alert at ladyboobs; as some had predicted, it's being used to censor politically sensitive material. Of course, China's been doing this server-side for years. [WSJ]

Ahh, the joys of censorship.

It's coming here to America you wait and see. Government controlled banks, automotive companies, health coverage, now cigarettes.

We get so caught up going mad about not being able to pay off mortgages we knew we couldn't afford in the first place, drive off lots with cars we definitely know are beyond our capacities, that we panicked and gave away the only thing we shouldn't have given away.

The right to be broke, smug, sickly, targeted, and afraid. There have been bills passed off by lawmakers to censor online porn. It's starting of course with the "Cyber-Czar". Sooner or later (noble) lawmakers targeting frightened mothers afraid of "predators" and single fathers with teenage daughters afraid of the corruption only the sight of a 14 inch "ebony" could possibly aspire are all going to succumb to it.

Censoring porn leads to only one logical outcome. Censoring the internet. And I'm fairly certain we all know what happens when ... that happens.
