In a couple of days, Hollywood will unleash its latest fairytale movie on the world. The Huntsman: Winter’s War is the followup to Snow White and the Huntsman, one of many fairytale movies that missed the entire point of making such a movie in the first place. Is it even possible to make a decent live-action…
The Washington Post has a fascinating article on the work of linguists who are looking at every line of dialogue from Disney princess movies and analyzing them for their representations of women. The results are mixed, to say the least.

Hardly a week goes by without Disney announcing a live-action adaptation of something. Some of them make a sort of sense, and the others are complete lunacy. As we have done before, it’s time to figure out just how many of these things are on the way—and how doomed we are.
Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella was pleasingly silly, and boasted a completely insane cast. But it just can't compete with this 1985 version. See for yourself: That's Matthew Broderick, pre-Ferris Bueller, as Prince Charming. Plus Flashdance's Jennifer Beals as Cinderella, and All in the Family's Jean Stapleton as the…
Has there ever been a movie as sugary as the live-action Cinderella? It's like stuffing your face with cake, until cake is all up inside your nostrils and you have a frosting-beard. And yet, this movie also has moments of actual emotion and believable characterization here and there, which make it surprisingly great.
This one's hard on a very personal level: Sarah Michelle Gellar is awesome, as always, but it's hard to really side with Cinderella over Belle. Feel free to come at me in the comments.

The very best part of Into The Woods is the super fast, sing-song exposition of the ensemble cast. This work is truly at its best when all the cast is crooning and joking together, and these new clips show it.
This new trailer for Disney's Cinderella only further confirms our suspicions that this live-action adaptation is almost a scene-for-scene remake of Disney's cartoon fable. GOOD.
