Click to viewThat thing we showed (and showed and showed) earlier? That wasn’t the real iPad. This is, as demo’d by “John”—aka funniest living Twitterer Peter Serafinowicz. 3D games!!! [Funny or Die UK via BoingBoing] https://gizmodo.com/apple-ipad-everything-you-need-to-know-5458292
Two of the most critical components of live coverage are batteries and cameras, so luckily we had HyperMac’s external MacBook battery keeping us juiced, along with a Nikon D3s and primo glass from Borrowlenses for our awesome shots. As always, Apple’s posted a full video of the iPad event, so you can pretend you were right there as Steve Jobs unveiled the world’s most incredible digital photo frame. [Apple]
Much like its beefier little brother the Droid, the Nexus One now has a dock that’ll activate the Clock app (giving you an alarm clock, weather, photos, and music) and charge the Nexus. Available now for $45. [Google via Twitter]
An update to the iPhone developer SDK brings us VoIP calls over cellular networks. Few iPhone applications have that feature built-in, but it won’t be long before updates come. Will we get to use this feature on the iPad though? https://gizmodo.com/skype-for-iphone-now-available-in-the-us-has-voip-over-5191538 We know that the Apple iPad has all the tools needed for VoIP calling—a…
I don’t know whether to go to an Apple store or the feminine care aisle to purchase an iPad. Oh, don’t groan! You cracked similar jokes. And let’s face it: They’re all kinda lame and won’t bother Steve whatsoever. https://jezebel.com/that-time-of-the-month-the-best-period-related-ipad-jo-5458338 There’s no escaping the iTampon, iMaxiPad, iMenstruate quips. Hell, they’re a trending topic on Twitter…
Griffin just announced their first iPad accessories, mostly consisting of cases and other screen protection. My favorite is the Elan Passport, pictured above—classy, eh? And yet, demure. Too bad it’s not also a kickstand, like Apple’s case. https://gizmodo.com/ipad-kickstand-accessory-doubles-as-a-nice-leather-case-5458344 So, a quick rundown. The Elan Passport, a leather flip-open case with some room for business cards…

Before launch, we spent a lot of time thinking about how you might be able to type on the iPad, seeing as plain onscreen keyboards one 10-inch tablets are just, well, awkward. But apparently, Apple doesn’t think so. https://gizmodo.com/how-will-we-type-on-the-apple-tablet-5446652 The above left image was a crude mockup, and it was supposed to illustrate a problem,…
Okay, it’s a big iPod. Maybe in more ways than we expected. Until you start touching the interface. Here’s a visual guide to the iPad’s interface, screen by screen. (And of course, check out our definitive hands on.) https://gizmodo.com/apple-ipad-first-hands-on-5457757 This is the home screen. The new iCal! And in portrait. Pop-ups like this one abound…
Who better to walk us through the features of the Apple iPad than some of the people behind the device?
We’re excited that the iPad’s data plans won’t lock you down in a 2-year contract and that the device’s 3G modem isn’t carrier-locked. But you still won’t get 3G speeds on an iPad if you decide to use T-Mobile. https://gizmodo.com/apple-ipad-data-plans-unlimited-data-for-30-month-wit-5458334 Why? The iPad’s 3G modem supports UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz) and GSM/EDGE (850, 900,1800,…
Only way to interpret the launch of the iPad? Apple has declared the PC dead. Well-crafted but closed devices are their future of consumer computing. And if no one else can match the iPad experience, they may be right. “In many ways this defines our vision, our sense of what’s next.” – Jonathan Ive PCs…
Well, this bodes poorly. Ahead of “Apple,” “Steve Jobs” and “Apple’s iPad” on Twitter’s worldwide trending topics rankings sits iTampon. Well done, internet! You’ve just made some marketing executive very sad and/or fired.
A lot of people at Gizmodo are psyched about the iPad. Not me! My god, am I underwhelmed by it. It has some absolutely backbreaking failures that will make buying one the last thing I would want to do. Updated https://gizmodo.com/apple-ipad-just-tried-to-assassinate-the-computer-5458349 Big, Ugly Bezel Have you seen the bezel on this thing?! It’s huge! I…
What a curious day for Olympus to launch a teaser campaign for the E-P3. Their next micro four thirds camera has been glimpsed through a few fat fingers, but hey—at least we know it exists! All we can determine from the few millimeters of surface area seen behind that rudely-placed hand is that there’ll be…
The iPad really is a giant iPhone—so much so that if you want to get a laptop-like experience out of it, you’ll need adapters to change the typical 30-pin connector into USB, SD, or AC power. Correction: In addition to the keyboard attachment, there will also be dongles, attaching to the 30-pin dock connector, that…

If you still haven’t gotten your fill of the iPad here are some official pictures to satisfy your appetite. https://gizmodo.com/apple-ipad-everything-you-need-to-know-5458292 [Apple]
It’s substantial but surprisingly light. Easy to grip. Beautiful. Rigid. Starkly designed. The glass is a little rubbery but it could be my sweaty hands. And it’s fasssstttt. Apple didn’t really sell this point, but it’s the single biggest benefit of the iPad: speed. It feels at least a generation faster than the iPhone 3GS.…
