Actress Sean Young thinks not casting Sean Young in the long-rumored Blade Runner sequel, supposedly to be directed by Ridley Scott, is the stupidest thing ever. How stupid? Well, she's asked the general population to boycott the movie if Blade Runner 2 has the gall to be made without her involvement.
Young, who of course legendarily begged director Tim Burton to cast her in Batman Returns while dressed in a homemade Catwoman costume, finds the idea of not being in
Blade Runner 2 to be downright offensive. As she told Entertainment Weekly:
"Alcon—they’re the ones that own it and apparently they have Ridley to direct it — and when I met with them they didn’t make any offer-plans to include me. And when I called Ridley Scott’s office, he doesn’t call me back. So I guess they’re going to go, like, prequel or…I don’t know what they’re going to do. But my official opinion is that, if they don’t include me in it, everybody should boycott it. Because it’s stupid not to have me in it. It’s really stupid. That’s my opinion! I mean, you try to tell people something sensible in Hollywood and sometimes they just don’t listen, you know. And they usually pay the price too, because everybody’s an expert."
I don't see how Scott or Alcon could possibly fail to cast her now. As one of Hollywood's most bankable stars, Young is both a pop culture icon and a celebrity of the highest order; she's the pre-eminent influence on the young people of America, who hang on her every word, and she's a proven leader of men. A Sean Young-less Blade Runner sequel or prequel would be hard-pressed to make seven figures without Young's support behind it—
—hmm? What? Her last major role was in 1994's Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and her most recently released motion picture role according to IMDB was as "Nelly the Spiderwoman" in a film called Gingerclown? And she has no influence on anybody?
Oh. Well, then maybe this wasn't the best way for her to try to get a role.
