Click to viewIn case you were wondering, it is possible to upgrade that measly 40GB hard drive on Apple TV, in this case to 120GB. Tipster Jonathan Bare says he's done it, resulting in a capacity of 107.36GB. Now that's more like it.

He sent along these two pictures (click on the gallery below for enlargements) showing the results of his hard drive upgrade, with a promise to tell us how he did it later on today. Watch this space.

Actually, the HD is a 2.5mm (laptop sized) so the biggest one you could use at this point would be the 160GB—if you wanted to keep the case closed.

I'm SURE that you could take a larger external HD and wire up some wacky power connector for it and have yourself a big-honkin' 750GB drive... But it woulden't look apple then, now would it?

(Cue the 3rd party hardware makers to have a external HD bottom with a desktop HD in it in 3... 2...)
