About Tetris

Tetris is an old classic puzzle video game that has existed for decades, but is still able to capture people’s attention.

It is based upon a very simple but genius idea: the shapes of geometric shapes, called tetrominoes, are falling from the top of your screen, and the main thing that you should do is move and rotate them properly to create the perfect shape at the point where they will be landing.

When you fill a horizontal line, it is erased, and you get some points. If the stack of blocks gets to the top then it’s game over. That’s the entire concept, but the result ends up being quite an intense and rewarding thing.

Tetris was created by a Russian software engineer in 1984, but it later spread to almost all gaming platforms one can imagine. This new version of the game has a very clean look and an addictive loop. It’s simple, and that is one of the reasons why it is so easy to learn and play from time to time. If you are playing it on a console or your phone, or as an old-school handheld game, you still get a feeling of freshness and challenge in the game.

It doesn’t depend on complicated graphics or sound, and it has nothing to do with a copy-paste aesthetic. It is about rhythm, reaction, and strategy. It is also a little like meditation. You can get lost in it without any feeling that you actually got lost. It is really that simple and that classic.

Why Should I Download Tetris?

Tetris is one of those rare games that can get boring, but only in the span of years, and if you have played it rather a lot. The fact that it is so easily playable is one of the main reasons behind downloading it. There is no need to have a tutorial or hours to get into it. You can simply open the game and jump right in. That’s potent in this day and age when everything seems to want a learning curve, or a sign on screen. In Tetris, it is game on – and you’re on.

This new version of the 1984 game offers colored graphics and unique gaming levels. Of course, Tetris is still a single-player game, as it always has been. Your goal is to improve your score on and on as you grab new skills to create a line while the Tetriminos are falling faster. The game offers several modes: single player, Marathon, Quick Play, Daily Challenges, etc.

Furthermore, in this modern Tetris, you can personalize your experience. Choose between custom themes and backgrounds for your playfield. You can also personalize your avatar and its frame.

What makes Tetris even more attractive is the fact that it works for all people. Kids can play it. Adults play it. Even if somebody doesn’t even consider him-/herself a gamer, he/she know about it and have probably played it at least once. It’s universal. It is not dependent on language or on complicated controls or glitzy features.

It requires nothing but your attention and a couple of swipes or key presses. It is a game that pays off to be concentrated and have fast thinking, and a game that does not waste your time. It works whether you’ve got five minutes or you’ve got half an hour.

Is Tetris Free?

Yes, you can play Tetris for free on your smartphone or tablet, even on your web browser. But, as you can suspect, there are in-app purchases included. They allow you to buy Coins packs or other types of bundled bonuses.

What Operating Systems are Compatible with Tetris?

Tetris is available for any mobile device running on Android or iOS systems. The game is compatible with smartphones and tablets alike. You can also play the online version through your favorite web browser, on any device, with an internet connection.

What Are the Alternatives to Tetris?

If you are a fan of the Tetromino gameplay, then maybe your love for Tetris-style puzzles will be complemented by the one or two other puzzle games that will provide the same sense of gratification, though in other ways. These games are just as addictive, and what is more, usually easy to learn. Though they do not have the long history and international fame of Tetris, they also bear that same energy of quiet focus and satisfying development. Sometimes it is nice to try something new that is like the old one.

Block Puzzle is one of the most similar in style to Tetris. The grid and the mechanic, where you have to fit pieces to fit the given shape, are being kept, but it’s a nice alternative to have the pieces freely given to you to place at a pace of your own and not having them fall from the top. In other words, instead of reaction time, it is more about planning. It’s slower, more measured, and an exercise of thought, a couple of moves ahead. There is no time limitation; hence, it is great to unwind but maintain the brain active. People play it on their phones, and it’s easy to play during a boring wait or even to catch a short rest.

Block Blast! is one of the casual entertainment versions of this block-puzzle genre. It adds color and adds a light animation effect to make things look more visually lively, but the gist is here: fit shapes, clear lines, and keep moving as far as you can. The factor that makes Block Blast!’s difference is the pacing. It is more energetic and livelier, and that can be a good thing if you need a little more excitement in the time that you spend on puzzles. The controls are nice, the design is friendly, and you will not take a lot of time to realize how it works. This may be interesting for those who would like to take a little break from the classic feeling of Tetris.

Block Puzzle Jewel Classic is another one of such choices that has established its following. It adds some twinkle in the form of a gem-based twist to the gameplay we know. As in Block Puzzle, it doesn’t require the falling of pieces, but it allows you to select and place blocks on the board. It is all strategy since when the board is full and there is no space left, it is game over. The jewel graphics make it all sparkly and light-hearted, but at the core, it is all about logic and efficiency. This game can become rather interesting if you try to beat your high scores and clear the board in a smart way.
