Pornhub has blocked 25 US states, including Arizona, Utah, and Texas, and California isn’t one of them. The state’s own attempt at an ID check for adult sites stalled in the legislature, so adults in Los Angeles or San Diego can open Pornhub without uploading anything.
That leaves two practical concerns. At home, Spectrum, AT&T, or your mobile carrier can see that you visit Pornhub, even though they can’t see what you watch. On a weekend in Scottsdale or a work trip to Dallas, the site turns you away because your IP address now places you in a blocked state.

Is Pornhub Banned in California?

Porn sites are outside that law too. Things look different across the state line. Arizona, Utah, and Idaho require ID checks, and Pornhub chose to block each of them instead. Other sites remained and ask visitors to verify. xHamster is one example, with its age check in Utah:
Pornhub’s sister sites, YouPorn and RedTube among them, follow the same state list, and the company limits YouPorn in Australia as well. Pornhub’s owner has said it prefers age checks built into devices over checks on each website.
If California ever applies its device law to websites, the situation could change, but nothing on the books does that today.
Why Pornhub Might Not Work in California
If Pornhub shows a blocked notice while you’re in California, one of these is usually the reason:
- Your IP address points to another state. Mobile carriers sometimes send traffic through Arizona, Nevada, or Texas, and near the borders, lookup databases can place a home connection in the wrong state. Switching from mobile data to Wi-Fi, or the other way around, often fixes it.
- A VPN is still connected elsewhere. If your VPN was last set to Texas or Florida for streaming, Pornhub reads that state. Disconnect, or choose a California server.
- The notice is cached. The browser may show a saved copy from an earlier visit. A private window or a cleared cookie for the site loads the current page.
- The network filters adult sites. School, campus, and office networks, public Wi-Fi, and family plans with content filters block adult sites on purpose. On these networks, the block comes from the network, and the network’s rules still apply.
