Is Pornhub Still Banned in Australia? How to Watch It in 2026

Pornhub is still available in Australia, in a restricted form. Since March 6, 2026, Australians who aren’t signed in see a safe-for-work version of the site with registration closed. Its sister sites, including YouPorn and RedTube, are fully blocked. On October 7, Aylo began restoring the full site on Australian iPhones and iPads with Apple’s adult confirmation. Android and Windows users are still on the cut-down site.

The change came shortly before Australia’s age-restricted material codes started on March 9. The codes no longer accept a click-through age button on adult sites. Aylo chose to restrict its sites instead of building its own checks. For adults outside Apple’s system, connecting through a New Zealand or Canadian VPN server is the other method. Here’s how the two methods work.

Is Pornhub Still Banned in Australia?

No, and the government never banned it. Aylo, the Canadian company behind Pornhub, restricted its Australian site on March 6, 2026, three days before the new codes took effect. Visitors who weren’t signed in were shown interviews, unboxing videos, and other safe-for-work content. Local reports said accounts created before the change kept explicit content, though Aylo never confirmed it.

When we connected to a Perth server, Pornhub showed a member login form. Next to it was the notice “not currently accepting new account registrations in your region.” An eSafety spokesperson called Aylo’s move “a business decision for them.”

Aylo’s announcement on October 7, 2026, welcomed “eligible age-confirmed Australian iOS users back to Pornhub.” For those users, the site serves the standard adult experience. Android phones and Windows computers haven’t regained access.

Pornhub on iPhone and iPad: Apple’s Age Check

Apple added adult confirmation for Australian accounts in September 2026. Adults without that confirmation have Apple’s Web Content Filter and Communication Safety enabled by default, and Safari blocks adult sites for them. Apple requests confirmation when you create an Apple Account, update software, change certain safety settings, or download an 18+ app.

Apple accepts these methods:

• A credit card in your own name. Debit cards aren’t eligible, and gift cards don’t count.
• An ID scan of a passport, driver’s license, or other government-issued ID.
• Existing account details, such as a card on file or the age of the Apple Account.

Some methods work only on iPhone and iPad, and Mac users are told to confirm on one of those devices. Aylo’s announcement names iOS users only, and it’s unclear whether Macs or browsers other than Safari see the full site. YouPorn, RedTube, and Tube8 weren’t part of the announcement.

Aylo has pushed for checks on the device for years. Its argument is that adults confirm their age once with Apple instead of sending documents to every website they visit.

A bill introduced on August 24, 2026, targets social media accounts for under-16s, and New Zealand’s government says the bill doesn’t regulate VPNs.

Canada is the backup. Pornhub worked normally with a Canadian IP address as well. A Canadian age-check bill for porn sites, S-209, won Senate approval in April 2026 but was still before the House of Commons in October.

3. Clear Old Cookies Before Browsing

Delete Pornhub’s cookies from past Australian sessions first. Stored data may keep the safe-for-work version on screen. Once Pornhub detects a New Zealand IP address, it loads the full site.

The Age-Check Codes Behind the Change

The rules come from industry codes registered by eSafety under the Online Safety Act 2021. Nine Phase 2 codes cover age-restricted material. The one for websites, the Designated Internet Services code, took effect on March 9, 2026. Sites with the highest risk of children seeing porn must use “appropriate age assurance.” Clicking an “I am 18” button no longer counts.

The codes name methods such as photo ID matching, facial age estimation, credit card checks, and digital identity wallets. eSafety says the codes “do not require services to verify age using government ID.” A company that ignores a direction to comply faces civil penalties of up to A$49.5 million. Aylo said Australia “is following a similar approach to the UK, which all our evidence shows does not effectively protect minors.”

The company argues that site-by-site checks create data privacy risks and push people toward non-compliant sites. eSafety replied that the codes “do not prevent adults from accessing, viewing, and paying for material such as online pornography.”

Other Porn Sites in Australia

RedTube, YouPorn, and Tube8 have been fully blocked for Australian IP addresses since March 6, 2026.

Is It Legal to Use a VPN for Pornhub in Australia?

Yes, for adults. Australia has no law against using a VPN. The codes regulate websites, search engines, app stores, and other online services, and their penalties apply to companies. The porn codes don’t mention VPNs.

eSafety’s guidance for the separate under-16 social media rules does expect platforms that rely on IP addresses to detect VPNs. No minister or regulator has proposed a VPN ban. Connecting through a VPN doesn’t exempt you from Australian law.

Australia’s VPN Surge in March 2026

Apptopia data reported by Reuters showed 28,722 Australian VPN downloads on March 8, up from about 10,000 a day the week before. Daily VPN sessions peaked at 1.32 million that day. NordVPN and Proton VPN, two of the best VPNs for Australia, climbed the Australian App Store charts as well.

Free VPN apps climbed too, and some came with serious privacy problems. One free VPN in the top ten of Apple’s Australian chart had 28 trackers and 40 permissions in its Android app, according to an Exodus Privacy scan. Trackers in a VPN app defeat the purpose of using one for adult sites.
