Io9 2025 Spoiler warning

Lily May B

Variety reports Jenna Ortega is attached to star in Lily May B, “a surreal, dystopian road movie” from Leos Carax. The film’s official synopsis reads: “Once upon a time, there was a little girl, a young woman and a young boy. They each held a secret too heavy to bear. They met in an end-of-the-world world, and together rode a big motorcycle through empty cities, deserted freeways, immemorial forests. On their journey, they encountered many dangers, but kept going. In search of who they were; in search of a place to B, maybe?”

Controllers

Variety also has word Canadian filmmaker Adam Azimov will direct Controllers, a “dystopian” horror movie set “in the aftermath of a devastating outbreak that has driven a small family into isolation on a remote farm. Raised to fear the mysterious Controllers — infected people capable of manipulating others through touch — two sisters have spent their lives cut off from the outside world, surviving behind fences, traps, and strict rules meant to keep them alive. But when a stranger is brought into their home, old fears begin to surface, and the fragile dynamic holding the family together starts to crack. As tension mounts and trust erodes, the sisters are forced to question everything they’ve been taught about the world beyond their borders.“

Man of Tomorrow

Speaking with Variety, producer Peter Safran confirmed Milly Alcock’s Supergirl will return in Man of Tomorrow, adding the character plays “a major part in what we’re doing” with the DCU going forward.

American Horror Story

According to Deadline, Mena Suvari, John Carroll Lynch, Mat Fraser, and Berto Colón have joined the cast of American Horror Story‘s thirteenth season in currently undisclosed roles.

Vought Rising

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke stated the upcoming spinoff Vought Rising—which sees Soldier Boy and Stormfront solving “a twisted murder mystery”—will depict a seldom seen “grittier” version of the 1950s audiences aren’t typically accustomed to.

It’s definitely got some Boys‘ DNA in that it’s irreverent and graphic. But it has this sort of lovely, almost noir-like murder mystery—not Black Noir but actual noir. There are detectives and twists, and there’s a murder that then opens up into a bigger conspiracy.

We’re also trying to do a very gritty version of the ’50s. Most people’s feeling or sense memory of the ’50s is from movies, which are very sanitized. Even L.A. Confidential, as much as I love it, is visually a pretty clean movie. We wanted dirty and grimy. There would be heroin dens and gay bars and this underbelly of popular culture at the time. So to explore all that is a blast, as well.

I would say our satirical teeth are just as sharp. History is a circle, and a lot of what was happening then are the same things that are happening now—from like weaponized religion to the way media is self-absorbed and self-centered. A lot of the targets are the same, and you get to see the origin of it. [Showrunner Paul Grellong] chose 1950 and he’s so smart to have chosen it. It’s really when America defined what the next 100 years were going to look like. So you see this reasonably new invention called television, with this new notion of advertising right into people’s homes. It’s the origin of the world we live in.

The Vampire Lestat
