Warning: You should probably not check out this week’s list of releases unless you have some spare cash, because there’s so much good stuff coming out this week. Seriously, you read this, you’re gonna spend some money. It’ll go a lot easier for you if have some to spend.
As I sat there watching my nine millionth commercial for the DKR DVD, it dawned on me that, while I enjoyed the movie, I have absolutely no desire to see it again. Anyone else have this same realization? At any rate, you can also get the entire Bat-Nolan trilogy, if you’re so inclined.

Terry Gilliam’s dystopian masterpiece – well, one of Terry Gilliam’s dystopian masterpieces, at least – comes to Blu-ray courtesy of Criterion, which means it’s fat-packed with extras (and all those alternate versions of the movie, too).
The fact that Otto the bus driver is on the cover of this set seems strangely, sadly appropriate.
The recent live-action web series about Master Chief-loving cadets in training gets edited into a single feature.
• My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Season One
I feel it’s worth noting that Amazon lists this set’s special features with an oddly perfunctory “None.” As if to say “None. Because you people are going to buy it no matter what. You’d buy it if it came with a free kick to the junk. Any don’t think we didn’t think about including one.”
One of the better entries in the ‘80s Godzilla oeuvre comes to Blu-ray.

• Mystery Science Theater 3000 Vol. XXV
If you don’t mind indulging me, there’s nothing on Earth I love more than MST3K, so here’s a few details. The set includes: Robot Holocaust, a sub-low-budget post-apocyptic fantasy flick that’s one of the highlights of MST’s first season; Operation Kid Brother (a.k.a. Operation Double 007), starring Sean Connery’s brother Neil as a suave doctor/hypnotist/martial artist who’s actually called the brother of one of Britain’s “top agents” in the movie (that’s the trailer nearby); Kitten with a Whip, a delightfully goofy ‘60s drama about a rich, white, middle-aged, would-be senator is terrorized by the nubile and scantily clad teenaged Ann-Marget; and Revenge of the Creature, a shockingly dull monster movie despite the fact that it’s a sequel to Creature from the Blue Lagoon. It’s a great collection of episodes, but then, I’d also buy any MST3K DVD set even if it came with a free kick to the junk.
• Bleach: The Movie: Hell Verse
Ichigo and pals go to hell. Really. That’s what the product summary says. Given how terrible most movies of major shonen anime series are – since they never have anything to do with actual continuity and are thus complete inconsequential – I imagine “hell” works on a couple of levels.
• Power Rangers Super Samurai: The Complete Season
The 19th and most recent of the Power Rangers iterations. Note: If the Rangers are samurai in this one, as the title would indicate, then there’s a samurai named Jayden. I’m sure Japan is thrilled.
The movie that defined anime for a generation – specifically, defined it as being ludicrously violent and having random nudity in it – finally comes to Blu-ray.

Cronenbeg’s look at virtual reality comes to a Blu-ray that doesn’t force you to buy B Monkey and Benevolent with it.
• Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation Vol. 2
This is the series with Venus de Milo in it, so yeah, don’t bother.
• Santa Claus Conquers the Martians: Remastered Edition
I beg of you, if you’re determined to watch this terrible, terrible ’60s movie, at least hunt down the MST3K version.
The excellent web series about a slacker who gets sent to the Legend of Zelda’s Hyrule while engaging in a bit of autoerotic asphyxiation while masturbating to an 8bit fairy comes to DVD, and you should buy it, if only because it stars Felicia Day in her most insane, funny and perverted role ever (video evidence presented).
• Comic Book Confidential: 20th Anniversary Edition
This 1988 documentary helped pave the way for the realization that comics had more to offer than dudes in tights. If you’re wondering about the dates, I assume this is the Blu-ray of the 20th anniversary DVD that came out in 2008, but otherwise there’s some crazy math going on.
