Feeling like there are no great adventures left on television? Don't worry — there's tons of great science fiction and fantasy coming to the small screen this year. Here's our list of the year's genre television, from superheroes to time-travelers.
Primeval
You saw the beginning of 4th season of BBC's Primeval on New Year's Day, and it still has a few more episodes to go. How have Abby and Connor changed since they've been trapped amongst the dinosaurs in the prehistoric era for a whole year?
When: Saturdays
Where: BBC America
Castle
This cop show, starring Nathan Fillion and frequently featuring more genre references than you can shake a blaster at, returned from its winter hiatus this week. Error: I reported earlier that there were only a few episodes left, not true!
When: Mondays
Where: ABC
Robotomy
Back from its winter hiatus on January 3rd, the robot animation is back (with only three more episodes left).
When: Mondays
Where: Cartoon Network
V
V started its second season with a lizardy hiss this week. The second season seems much more promising than the first, due to promises of full reveals of what the aliens look like without their human skin suits — plus the new guest star, Jane Badler, who was the evil Visitor queen in the first V series. Check out her return in the season promo clip below.
When: Tuesdays
Where: ABC
Merlin
Merlin continues its third season on the Syfy channel (yes, this used to air on BBC One). Here's the synopsis for the first episode: "It's been a year since Morgana went missing. After a long search, she is finally found wandering in the woods, and nobody but the King can rejoice more. Morgana tries to put the past behind her, and she tries to make Merlin her friend again. But Merlin does not fall for her ploy, as he knows she is not the Morgana he used to know. He soon discovers that Morgana is part of a plot to drive Uther insane, and help a rival king conquer Camelot."
When: Fridays, season premiere January 7th

Young Justice
The Justice League's younger sidekicks finally get their time to shine on the new animated series Young Justice. Take note — Young Justice will re-air the one hour pilot in two chunks, on January 7th and 14th, with new episodes picking up on January 21st.
When: Fridays, season premiere January 7th
Where: Cartoon Network
The Cape
A young cop is framed as a crime lord and takes his vengeance as a masked vigilante, "the Cape." But first he has to learn how to be a superhero from a team of circus freaks.
When: Mondays, season premiere Sunday January 9th
Where: NBC
Robot Chicken
If the Robot Chicken Star Wars special was any indication of what we're going to see in the new fifth season, then this should be a pretty excellent year. Plus I think I spotted a unicorn fighting a werewolf in the season promo video.
When: Sundays, season premiere January 9th
Where: Adult Swim
Being Human
Following BBC's supernatural drama Being Human is going to be hard, but we're willing to give the Americanized version of this drama a chance. If you're not familiar with this show here's the premise: a werewolf, a vampire, and a ghost all live together in an apartment.
When: Mondays, season premiere January 17th
Where: Syfy
House
Our favorite TV scientist (who doesn't sell meth or give people LSD) is back on January 17th after the long winter break in November.
When: Mondays, season returns January 17h
Where: Fox
Chuck
The computer-brained wannabe spy returns with more mommy issues, not to mention girlfriend issues.
When: Mondays, season returns January 17th
Where: NBC
Community
Since just about every single episode of Community has had some deeply amazing genre joke, spoof or plot line, we felt it was important to include it here. Plus it's freaking hilarious.

Where: NBC
The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang Theory returns with more extreme geek humor and genre references — plus hopefully more fan-favorite guest stars like Summer Glau and Eliza Dushku.

The Vampire Diaries
The vampire boys return after the cold winter hiatus to fight over the same lady once more. When will we finally get to meet the mysterious ancient vampire Klaus?
When: Thursdays, January 27th
Where: CW
Smallville
This should be the very last season of Smallville, and the CW STILL hasn't announced when the absolute last episode will be, if it's going to be a two-parter, or what? But what we do know is that it will be back in January.
When: Fridays, January 28th
Where: CW
Supernatural
The Winchester boys will continue demon hunting in the end of January. Including one metatextual episode where they travel to an alternate universe where they're actors starring in a show called Supernatural. Yeah, really.
When: Fridays, January 28th
Where: CW
Batman Brave And The Bold
The next Batman BATB episode is titled "Bat-Mite Presents: Batman's Strangest Cases" which means, more Bat-Mite, a character we hold near and dear to our hearts. No air date yet, but we're anxious for the return of the Bat-Mite!

The Event
NBC's strange conspiracy series The Event returns, hopefully to a much more interesting plot and a larger audience in February.
When: Mondays, returning February 28th
Where: NBC
Camelot
An amazing collection of actors (Joseph Fiennes, Eva Green, Jamie Campbell Bower, Tamsin Egerton, Peter Mooney, Clive Standen) have lined up to bring back the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round table. But this interpretation will demystify the noble knights and blushing damsels in distress. The gritty reinterpretation of the classic sword in the stone story hopes to reinvent the genre. It's produced by Torchwood's Chris Chibnall.
When: Fridays, season premiere April 1st
Where: Starz
Game Of Thrones
Based on the epic fantasy series by George R.R. Martin, about battling kingdoms, royal tragedy, murder, treason, all set in a land where the winter season can last for years. And honestly, that's not even doing the books justice. It's a very absorbing series, full of amazing twists and surprising (and usually nasty) developments. We truly hope HBO will do it justice, and so far we're pretty optimistic. Take a look at this elaborate behind the scenes video:
When: Sometime in April
Where: HBO
Stargate Universe
Even though Stargate Universe has been canceled, Syfy will still finish out the back half of their second season. Which is sad, because the show was just starting to get good. Alas.
When: Sometime in the spring, we're guessing April.
Where: Syfy
Terra Nova
The first of two Steven Spielberg TV projects. This little show has been dubbed Land of The Lost meets Avatar and takes place in the future, and then later in the past. After the humans have all but destroyed the planet, in the year 2149, a coalition of scientists escape to prehistoric Earth. Together they have to brave the harsh realities of their primitive era, and hopefully figure out a way to fix the future. A few new images were just released today! The show will star Jason O'Mara from the Americanized version of Life On Mars.
When: The pilot should air sometime in May, with more episodes in the fall.
Where: Fox
Falling Skies
Spielberg's second TV project, an alien invasion drama. ER alum Noah Wyle leads a small militia of the remaining humans a few years after the aliens blew up most of Earth.
When: Sometime in June
Where: TNT
True Blood
The fourth season of True Blood should have a lot more magic and witches and a whole new kind of Eric. Oh and were-panthers who like meth.
When: The last two seasons debuted in June, so we're guessing around then
Where: HBO
Breaking Bad
The shit has truly hit the fan over at Breaking Bad and it's time for Mr. White to throw down. We cannot wait.
When: Sometime in July of 2011
Where: AMC
Warehouse 13
We're very happy that W13 is coming back for another season! It's the perfect combination of the odd couple, nerd service and freak of the week fodder!
When: No date has been announced yet, but these shows usually pop up in July on Syfy.
Where: Syfy
Eureka
Now that time travel has forever changed the people in Eureka, what will the future hold for our slightly different citizens of the smartest town on the planet?
When: No date has been announced yet, but these shows usually pop up in July on Syfy.
Where: Syfy
Now that the series has strayed from the comic (big time) we're super interested to see what will happen in season 2. But we've really got our fingers crossed for a little Michonne cameo (Is it still too early for her yet? We want samurai swords and zombies now please!).
When: Fall (we're guessing AMC likes to promote Walking Dead during their very fun Horror Week in October, perhaps they will do that again)
Where: AMC
Green Lantern: The Animated Series
DC is truly putting a lot of effort into their next animated series. Producer Bruce Timm has admitted that it won't go necessarily hand-in-hand with the Ryan Reynolds movie, but there will be some overlap. Either way the concept art looks amazing, and reminds us of Batman The Animated Series (which is such a good thing).
When: Sometime in November
Where: Cartoon Network
Ultimate Spider-Man: The Animated Series
Rooted in the comic book series of the same name — Paul Dini, Brian Michael Bendis, Duncan Rouleau, Joe Casey, Joe Kelly and Steven T. Seagle have all come together to make one hopefully excellent Spider-Man TV series. Should pair quite nicely with the new Spider-Man movie as well.
When: Sometime in the Fall
Where: Disney XD
Battlestar Galactica: Blood And Chrome
Now that Caprica has been canned, Syfy is trying what appears to be a more BSG fan base friendly prequel with Blood And Chrome. The main character is young Adama, and all he does is kick Cylon ass. From what we've seen from the concept art, we're very impressed. Fingers crossed for this one, because we really miss screaming SO SAY WE ALL.
Where: Syfy
When: The pilot TV movie should air end of 2011, or beginning of 2012
Thundercats
While we're still holding out for a live action movie (Avatar style) Warner Bros. has promised an animated Thundercats series for sometime this year. We're very, very excited about this announcement, but we're not holding our breath. Making cat people seems like arduous work.
When: Not Yet Announced
Where: Cartoon Network
Torchwood: The New World
Movie star Bill Pullman and Dollhouse favorite Dichen Lachman have both joined the new Torchwood series. This year, Torchwood sets up shop in America, specifically outside of Bruce Willis' home (seriously they used exterior shots of his home for the new Torchwood homebase).
When: Not Yet Announced (Possibly the Summer)
Where: Starz

The promo for the sixth season of Doctor Who has aired, promising American landscapes, new hats and lots of drama.
Where: BBC
When: Not Yet Announced (Possibly the Spring)
Superjail
In 2009 we were promised more creeptastic mind trip Superjail. Allegedly Adult Swim is working on a second season to be aired this year (no word if David Wain will voice the Warden again). We really hope this happens, this was our favorite program to scare our friends with.UPDATE: Commenters are saying that Wain tweeted a picture or himself in the sound studio recording new Superjail. So I guess we have our answer. Yay!
