Lego's DC Comics Superheroes line has been home to some fantastic sets, but this might just be the best:A Lego Invisible Jet! Gorilla Grodd! The Flash! A Bat-Mech! And even better - it's out this week!
Gorilla Grodd Goes Bananas - OF COURSE IT'S CALLED THAT TAKE MY MONEY YES PLEASE THANK YOU - doesn't actually have all that much Lego in it, but it makes up for it with the sheer amount of delightful absurdity within. Batman of course tries to crash the party (like basically every DC Lego set - who hasn't got a legion of Lego Batmen at this point?) with his really rather silly giant Batmech, but not even the Dark Knight can overshadow Wonder Woman's Invisible Jet:
Okay, so it's not literally invisible - the fan-made UCS invisible jet has yet to be topped - but it's a pretty good attempt, making it entirely out of translucent lego pieces. Translucent except for some bluey flames wooshing out of the back, but that's pretty cool. I think Diana does not mind that part not being invisible, even though presumably it gives away where she is all the time? Coolness beats practicality!
The rest of the set is just as fun - Gorilla Grodd AND Captain Cold to go up against the Flash, as well as a poor banana deliveryman to face Grodd's ire. That's not bad at all - although as a $50 set I might wait for a sale before I help myself to some DC Lego loveliness.
Gorilla Grodd Goes Bananas is out January 1st, although many retailers are starting to sell it right now alongside the rest of the month's Lego DC sets: Green Lantern vs. Sinestro (Sinestro, yay! Unnecessary Batman, boo.), Brainiac Attack (Supergirl and Martian Manhunter!), Black Manta Deep Sea Strike (BLACK MANTA!) and Darkseid Invasion (Hawkman!).
Christmas is barely over and yet already my wallet is trembling. Oh dear.
