Wizordum is a first-person shooter for Windows PCs with a retro design where you use spells and magical items to defeat enemies. It combines mechanics from classic 90s games with modern solo and multiplayer gameplay, and offers various difficulty levels.

About Wizordum

Inspired by titles such as DOOM, Heretic, and Hexen, Wizordum is a fast-paced first-person shooter that prioritizes quick reflexes and has detailed pixel art design. As one of the last remaining Mages, your task is to find the sources of chaos that have corrupted the world. You need to explore and battle various opponents with skill and appropriate tactics to do that.

Combat in Wizordum is a mix of spells and melee weapons that you can use depending on the situation and type of enemy you encounter. You need to dynamically switch between brutal physical assaults and magical attacks as each demon is more vulnerable to one of the two types. Each level you go through in Wizordum resembles a maze and is full of secret passages, hidden items, and valuable loot. While you can aim just to complete a level as soon as possible, exploring it in detail can be very rewarding.

You can play Wizordum in a single-player campaign mode to follow the game narrative and explore different levels, or choose multiplayer mode, where you compete on a leaderboard for the best time in clearing a given level. You can also create and share custom levels and buy Wizordum for Windows computers.

Why should I download Wizordum?

If you're a fan of retro FPS games, then definitely check out Wizordum as it faithfully recreates the speed and challenges of those 90s shooters. You need to be in constant movement to avoid enemy attacks while also launching yours, and there are no covers - you just need quick reflexes and to perform attacks without hesitation. Your enemies range from shambling skeletons to fire-breathing demons, so you need to adapt your gameplay and the weapons you use, as each of the creatures has a different attack pattern.

When it comes to the weapons available to you, Wizordum offers a hybrid of melee weapons and magical attacks. The first one is a mace, which is an excellent option for close-range combat, as it can crush opponents with its weight or stagger large beasts. You also carry a spellbook where you have more variety and can choose from long-distance attacks such as fireballs, defense spells that set up protective wards, or launch spells on specific areas that work on whole groups of enemies. You need to understand where to use which attack mode and quickly switch between them to move forward.

Each level you go through in Wizordum has multiple layers to it that you can explore to find locked doors, hidden switches, or fake walls that can conceal artifacts, treasures, or new, secret areas. The more thorough you are, the more rewards you can get, and these can give you tactical and passive advantages or additional, powerful spells. Most environmental elements you see can be interacted with or destroyed to uncover any secrets they hide, like supplies, or used as part of your attacks.

Even though Wizordum is a modern game, it faithfully recreates the aesthetics of retro games with its pixel art design that mixes 2D enemies and 3D levels together to create visual depth. You can also choose the level of difficulty you want to play, so the game offers enough challenge without being impossible to pass when you're just starting. Wizordum also includes a builder where you can create custom levels and campaigns that can then be shared with the game community through Steam. You can buy Wizordum and play it solo or in multiplayer mode on Windows computers only.

Is Wizordum free?

No, Wizordum is not a free game, and you can buy it for your PC through Steam or GOG. You can choose between getting this title alone or picking a bundle with other games from the same publisher.

What operating systems are compatible with Wizordum?

In order to play Wizordum, you need to have a Windows 10 or higher operating system, and the game requires at least 2 GB of RAM as well as a dual-core processor (or newer).

Currently, there is no version of the game that's optimized for other operating systems or available on gaming consoles or mobile devices.

What are the alternatives to Wizordum?

DOOM: The Dark Ages is the newest title in the hit DOOM series, which acts as a prequel to the entire storyline. In this first-person shooter, you are placed in medieval times, where the Doom Slayer needs to battle demons using era-appropriate weapons with a modern spin. You can play its main campaign solo or join multiplayer modes, and the game is a AAA paid title that was released to Windows computers, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.

Beyond Citadel is a shooter that uses retro aesthetics in a cyberpunk setting, where you need to explore the massive structure known as the Citadel. You need to master quick movements, jumping, running on walls, and avoiding obstacles in order to move forward, while also launching attacks on your enemies. Weapons are more futuristic, and you can also level up to gain various cyber skills. You can buy Beyond Citadel through Steam, and it's only available on Windows PCs.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun - Words of Vengeance is a boomer shooter from a first-person perspective that adds a new mechanic to the Warhammer series. Here, you need to type out words on your keyboard to shoot enemies, but you need to be careful not to make any typos, as they can ruin your chances of winning. The game is free to play and available on Steam for Windows computers.
