And Zack Snyder reveals why the film is packing so much stuff in. Gal Gadot discusses the feminism of Wonder Woman. Yes, much to your understandable shock, there will be a lot more Star Wars and Marvel movies in the future. Plus, intriguing new Rogue One details, and The Flash casts another speedster. So many spoilers!

Batman v Superman

The latest issue of Empire continues to be a bounty of information on the movie. Speaking to Empire, Producer Charles Roven (via The Hollywood Reporter) had this interesting tidbit to say about Batman’s approach to justice on the streets of Gotham:

[Batman] is not giving people a chance. He is more than a vigilante. He has become not only the cop, if you will, he has also become the jury and executioner.

Now, this could just be a turn of phrase from Roven rather than something to be taken literally—but it’s a rare occasion indeed that you could describe Batman, a character known for a strict code of no killing that has been fostered for years in the comics and in other adaptations, as an “executioner.” Make of it what you will.

In the same issue, this time via Movie Web Gal Gadot discusses Diana’s nature as a feminist icon, and how both the movie and her solo Wonder Woman film will play with that.

Her sexuality is part of her power, but she is also a feminist icon. Gender has been a hot topic, so it is very timely to bring her back. The way we have approached it, especially in the stand alone movie, that is definitely there. Looking back and doing an origin story - and it is a period piece - see the role of women through history. There is a great source of humour in that now. It is so unbelievable you can’t even fathom it. You are still making a statement, but having some fun with it.

Meanwhile Zack Snyder touches on why the film is trying to pack in so much, from Wonder Woman to Doomsday, ahead of the Justice League movies:

It was incredibly organic how Wonder Woman came into the story. The whole concept came of, ‘Let’s not save anything. Let’s try it all.’ Then Wonder Woman’s entrance made us realize we were much closer to the Justice League than we thought. We realized we were one movie away.

Star Wars/Marvel

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Disney CEO Bob Iger says that there’s no plans to end the Marvel or Star Wars franchises after Episode IX or the Marvel films that are currently planned all the way up to the end of 2020:

There are five Star Wars films – four more with Episode VII: The Force Awakens – that are in varying stages of development and production. There will be more after that, I don’t know how many, I don’t know how often.

Marvel, you’re dealing with thousands and thousands of characters - that will go on forever.

Ghost in the Shell

Disney has dropped the release date for the Scarlett Johansson-led adaptation of the classic anime series—but only because the film will now be produced by Paramount. For now, it’ll still come out on March 31st, 2017. [Deadline]

Wonder Woman

Chris Pine elucidates on the compassion that sets Diana apart from other cinematic heroes in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel:

I think what’s really neat about it is that with all of the Thors and the Captain Kirks… I feel like with men at the helm, it’s always this kind of revenge cycle thing. It’s an eye for an eye, ‘We’re gonna go get the bad guys’ and the bad guys are defeated. What I think is really lovely having a woman at the helm of something like this is just by virtue of her being a woman there’s a great deal more compassion, love at the center of the story which for something as big as a film as this is going to be and with the kind of eyes that will watch it, I think it’s wonderful. The little bit we can do to inch this universe towards something not as aggressive and as violent as this world can be.

Star Wars: Rogue One

Joblo have an extensive report on the film. They corroborate recent rumors that Darth Vader will have an extensive role in the film, but the report also teases a new kind of TIE Fighter, the fact that AT-AT walkers will appear, and that there are black-armored Stormtroopers called “Death Troopers.”

One the side of the Rebels, the report reveals that one of the main characters will be called “Cashen” (although it may be spelled differently in the true Star Wars style of absurdly spelled names), and that there is a droid character that works with Felicity Jones character that is a scene-stealer in the vein of C-3PO, R2-D2, and BB-8—an old Imperial droid repurposed by the Rebel Alliance that is “two-legged and a dark grey or black in color,” with “long arms and legs.” As ever with these unsourced reports, a hefty dose of skepticism is required going in.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2

James Gunn has confirmed that the table read for the film has happened, via his Facebook account.

Arnold Schwarzenegger says that a Conan movie is still in the works:

Conan the Conqueror, where I’m sitting on the throne for years and years - decades, and then all of the sudden, the time comes when they want to overthrow me. So that story WILL be told and that movie WILL be done.

Yes, as a matter of fact, it [The Legend of Conan] has been written and we are now looking for directors so this is a serious drive [now for Conan].
