Ah, the Asus Eee PC, the little computer that can be modded to do anything, from stealing all your money in an ATM to grabbing all your money on the internet. This one will snatch $3,200 from your account if you want to buy it on eBay, with all the mods except for the 3G card: a 32GB Patriot XT solid state drive (in addition to the included 8GB), a touchscreen and a bunch of other things, an Air Play card to transmit all your sound to any FM radio. Complete specs after the jump.
• 8gb solid state drive
• 32gb Patriot XT drive
• 2gb RAM
• Intel Wi-Fi A/B/G/N upgraded card
• 7" LCD with touchscreen
• Air Play installed so you can transmit all of your sound to an FM radio
• Custom copper heatsink installed because it's overclocked
• Bluetooth adapter
• 2 USB hubs so all the USB devices can hook up to the Eee PC
• web cam
• speakers
• microphone
• 3 USB ports
• one external VGA port so you can hook up an external monitor
• Windows XP Professional SP3 with all the drivers installed and tested
• Screen resolution is set a 1024x768 with the hacked Video Driver
All good, even if the motherboard now looks like the Millennium Falcon's guts. [eBay—Thanks Moe]

this is one of those "because we can" cases...
why is his VGA and Modem on the wrong sides? Mine is switched to the opposite. Maybe i missed something.
Personally i think this is a little pricey. You could do all this yourself for about $500 including labor hours. But best of luck.
I agree
Methinks ye builder hath missed ye pointe.
While I admire all the modding madness going on with the Eee, a little soldering goes a long way in shaving off about 1000 dollars off that price tag. And is it just me, or do you need to open the case of the machine each time you want to or need to change the FM transmitter frequency?
@Sleeper_Service: Indeed, the EEE was marketed to be cheap.
does gizmodod get paid to post these things? I'm not complaining, but I bet ebayers would be willing to shell out cash for this massive advertising.
All this to still get carpal tunnel when you type too long on the minuscule keyboard AND can't really see much because it is a 7 inch screen.
For 3200 bucks I could get an Ultraportable full laptop and still watch DVD's.
This whole fad got annoying about 6 months ago. Now it's just firmly placed in Stupidland with a direct train ticket to Moronicville.
Don't forget the 30 minute battery life running all that other stuff that it wasn't spec'ed with.
This is idiotic. Yes, it's cool and incredibly well done, but honestly: this can be done for under $800 and a little soldering skill. You could even buy all the parts and pay someone to solder it together for less than $1000 total...
@link12245:
The board is upside-down for the purposes of showing the mods. The image is from the bottom of the board, not the top where the keyboard sits.
SDHC cards are up to 32gb, so what's the point of this having a sshd?
@liveinvt: Someone correct me if I'm wrong of course, but to the best of my knowledge the flash memory used on regular flash memory cards has a finite number of read/write cycles that can be burned through fairly quickly when using it for an Operating System.
SSDs utilize a different kind of flash memory and handle the read/write stuff differently to maximize the lifespan of the drive while also increasing that read/write performance to the level of standard hard drives from the much slower standard flash drives.
Here's a link to the EeePC forum where he posts some other details.

Amusingly enough, everyone there thinks it's a rather ridiculous asking price as well, including the guy who made it...
Also the 32GB Patriot XT drive isn't an SSD, it's a USB flash drive. Granted, it's quite fast, but there's a distinction there. As others stated, good mods, bad listing.
Sweet mod, but totally not worth it. Why bother when I could get a Thinkpad X300 instead for the same money? Granted, no touch screen, but delivers well in other areas.
@strider_mt2k: True, they probably do not last as long as flash cards.
Kingston's lifetime limited warranty doesn't rule out replacement upon death-by-usage:

But certainly you'd want to keep a backup.
Regardless, an interesting point that I was not considering. Thanks!
Certainly a mod project someone would want to do himself. Not a mod someone else would be stupid enough to buy. Also, after using an NEC mobilepro for about a year a long time ago, touch screens on a notebook orientation are worse than the EeePC's minuscule touchpad offering.
Nice mod, wouldn't buy at half the price.
Or you could get the Fujitsu LifeBook P1620. It doesn't include all the mods added to the EEE but it has noticable improvements in other areas and is still cheaper and around the same weight (2.2lbs).
8.9" touchscreen, 1.2ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB memory, 32GB SSD, A/B/G/Bluetooth wireless. The only things you'd be missing are the webcam, draft-N wireless, and FM transmitter.
Mods are cool and all, but when you put a pricetag on them for labor it's easier to justify a more expensive laptop.
Added tons of functionalities on it killing the one single reason people buy it: cheapness.
But like said... this is one of those "Because we can" cases...
Well I decided to hook everybody up and I dropped the auction start price to $1499.00 and the buy it now price to $2199.00. I did put a momentous amount of work into it, so happy birthday world!
@scrag: I get about 2.5 hours of life off the battery.
@strider_mt2k: Also I'm running my data and programs not operating system form the 32gb Patriot XT. The stock 8gb SSD is used for the OS.
@Slash3: Thanks man, I dropped the price so it's more obtainable.
@bot: Not to mention the GPS and Wifi N tech.
@Bokusatsu_Tenshi: I completely agree, it does make it more expensive, and I did this project just because I can. :)
I made another Eee PC today:

It sold for $1199.99.
why knock the guy? If you don't want it then move on.
@Manok: Exactly. But why are they knocking me? they want it. Maybe everyone can help me out with pricing it. Parts cost right around $1200.00 USD Labor time Well over 30 hours. I'm want nothing more for this to take off! help me out guys :) Thank you! - David Winter
Our customer Darryl found us via our e-bay posting, and came in to have his Eee PC hacked. So we hacked it for him and installed a bluetooth adaptor, 8gb usb flash drive (combined with the 4gb onboard drive it totals 12gb now in storage capacity) & Windows XP Pro SP3.
David Winter with Eee The E-bay $3200 Eee PC now priced at $2199(White 8gb) and Darryl's Eee PC(Black 701 4gb):
