New York Comic Con is celebrating a big milestone in 2026: it’s the convention’s 20th anniversary, and it comes with a Coney Island theme. How that will manifest—outside of some very cool promotional artwork—is anyone’s guess, but it’s a nice reminder of what sets the convention apart from the rest of the pack. San Diego Comic-Con may draw big movie and television studios with huge announcements and panels, but it’ll never be the city that Spider-Man calls home.
Given that New York has always been a key location in comics—especially Marvel, thanks to the New York-born-and-raised Stan Lee—it makes sense that NYCC is more focused on, well, comics than its West Coast counterpart. This year, Marvel has a whopping nine panels, not to mention even more signings and screenings. DC clocks in at five panels and a similarly large number of signings.
io9 will be on the ground at NYCC, from October 8-11, bringing you all the latest news, announcements, and, of course, cosplay. Watch this space for all of our updates from New York Comic Con 2026.

Day Three
New York Comic Con has officially crossed the halfway mark. It’s a sign of the times that Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099 series has nabbed the coveted Saturday evening panel slot at 6:45, while Star Trek—even with the benefit of an appearance by Captain James T. Kirk himself, William Shatner—takes a more modest 3:15 panel time. Elsewhen, Marvel Comics has its Spider-Web panel at 3:30 and its House of Ideas panel at 5:00, and Godzilla Minus Zero stomps into NYCC at 12:30. At 8:00, cosplayers take center stage in the regional qualifier for the Cosplay Central Crown Championships. Stay tuned; we’ll be bringing you updates throughout the day.
That’s a Wrap on the Blumhouse Panel
A couple of good announcements there, but let’s be real: The Exorcist: Martyrs overshadowed everything else.
The ‘Something Is Killing the Children’ Movie Has Found Its Director
Craig Zobel (The Hunt, Z for Zacariah) will direct the film based on James Tynion IV’s comic book series.
LaKeith Stanfield Will Star in a New Horror Movie From ‘Other Mommy’ Director Rob Savage
It’s called Molepeople.

Fun Things Happening at the ‘Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches’ Panel
Harry Hamlin: “The operative phrase tonight is ‘batshit crazy.’ And as Julien Mayfair, I get to make out with my mother. [Pause] Yeah, no, Anne Rice was batshit crazy.”
I Might Actually Need to Sign Up for AMC+ Just to Watch ‘Yaga’
Creator and showrunner Kat Sandler on Yaga: “It’s extremely fucked up, but in the best way. We’ve had people saying this whole time, like, ‘Kat, your brain is so wild, so fucked up, what a fucked up thing.’ And I just actually don’t think a world where women are powerful and punish the invisible monsters in society is fucked up at all.”
Brb, tattooing that final sentence on my forehead.
The ‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ Panel Ended on a High Note
We’ll have a more detailed post on the new announcements soon. For now, it’s on to One Piece in 15 minutes.
Bryan Konietzko Announces ‘Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos’
Konietzko described the new series as an “action comedy.”
Day Two
Today, the schedule at New York Comic Con gets a little more crowded as the everyone vies for prime Friday panel slots. A retrospective for the 30th anniversary of Scream kicks the day off at 11:00, overlapping with Avatar: Seven Havens at 11:15. After that, One Piece takes the stage at 12:45, AMC+ settles in for a marathon two-and-a-half hour panel covering Kill Jackie, Yaga, Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches, and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon at 3:30, Blumfest takes over at 5:30 with Violent Night 2, lucky attendees will see the U.S. premiere of the “Face Thief” episode of Strange: Junji Ito’s Tales for Sleepless Nights at 5:45, and Common Side Effects nabs a coveted Friday evening slot with its season two world premiere and Q&A at 7:00. Strap in; it’s going to be a long one, folks!

That’s It for ‘Crystal Lake’
Some fun anecdotes, not a whole lot of new information. We’ll have to wait until October 15 to see exactly what tricks Crystal Lake has up its sleeve.
There Are Some ‘Shot-for-Shot’ Homages to ‘Friday the 13th’ in ‘Crystal Lake’—but They Come With a Twist
Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane explained, “[There are] shot-by-shot recreations of scenes from the movie, lovingly recreated, that recontextualize things that you think you know.”
Next Stop: ‘Crystal Lake’
The new Friday the 13th prequel series is screening its first episode right now. There’ll be a livestreamed Q&A when it’s over, which should be in roughly 45 minutes. In the meantime, here’s the trailer.
That’s It for the Marvel Television and Animation Panel
Marvel really brought it this year. I wasn’t expecting much, but a mysterious new show, three surprise Marvel Zombies specials, a release date for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season two, new footage from X-Men ’97 season three (even if it was only seen by NYCC attendees), and a Defenders reunion is a pretty good haul.
‘X-Men ’97’ Season Three Got a New Teaser…
