Without a VPN, 7plus showed no error from Europe, only a loading circle still spinning when we closed the tab 20 minutes later. On Perth (Australia) servers, NordVPN, Proton VPN, and ExpressVPN unblocked its live channels, catch-up episodes, and AFL channel. Live streams were slow to start, taking 23 to 30 seconds. No free VPN we tried offers an Australian server, and NordVPN ranks first for speed.
Four Steps to 7plus Abroad in 2026
- Subscribe to NordVPN and install it on a computer, phone, or Fire TV Stick.
- Connect to an Australian server. Perth servers unblock 7plus on NordVPN, Proton VPN, and ExpressVPN.
- Create a free account at 7plus.com.au with an email address, a password, and an Australian postcode.
- Choose a live channel or an episode. Live channels take about 30 seconds to start.
Unblocking 7plus With an Australian Server
Connect the VPN to an Australian server before you open 7plus.com.au. Seven streams 7plus only to viewers in Australia and checks the IP address of every visitor. From a European IP address, the site opened, but the player spun without starting, and no message explained why. An Australian IP address fixes that.
The sign-up form requires an email address, a password, and a postcode. We entered a random Australian postcode, and 7plus accepted it. After signing in, pick a channel from the Live guide or open an on-demand title. Live channels took up to half a minute to start on every VPN, so wait before reloading.
Perth Server Results Compared
We tested in October on a Windows 11 PC in Europe, using a 190.36 Mbps baseline. On each VPN’s Perth server, we played a live channel, an on-demand episode, and the 7plus AFL channel. The download column uses each VPN’s fastest Australian server from the same round.
| VPN | Server that unblocked 7plus | Live channel start | On-demand and AFL channel | Fastest Australian download |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NordVPN | Australia #1155 (Perth) | About 30 seconds | Played | 135.60 Mbps (Perth) |
| Proton VPN | Perth – AU#288 | About 30 seconds | Played | 79.97 Mbps (Perth) |
| ExpressVPN | Australia – Perth | About 23 seconds | Played | 125.26 Mbps (Sydney) |
Best VPNs for 7plus
- NordVPN: Best overall, with 135.60 Mbps on its Perth server.
- Proton VPN: Best for server choice, with 281 servers in five Australian cities.
- ExpressVPN: Best for live channels, which started in about 23 seconds.
1. NordVPN: Best for Live Sport on 7plus
Pros
- NordLynx protocol
- SmartPlay for streaming
- Onion over VPN servers
Cons
- Price increases at renewal
- Slow live channel start
NordVPN‘s Perth server unblocked 7plus. Seven’s live channels, on-demand episodes, and the AFL channel played, the last one showing Gold Coast against Hawthorn from Round 15. Its Perth server measured 135.60 Mbps in our Australian speed test. The app lists Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney, plus obfuscated Australian servers for networks that block VPN traffic. NordVPN starts at $3.49/month, and renewal is $139.08/year, so long-term users will pay less than on Proton VPN.
2. Proton VPN: Best for Australian Server Choice
Pros
- Server load display
- VPN Accelerator
- Tor over VPN servers
Cons
- Perth speed drop
- Free tier lacks Australia
On Proton VPN, 7plus played through the Perth – AU#288 server, including the same AFL channel. The server showed 25% load at the time. Its Perth server came in at 79.97 Mbps, so viewers who want the fastest Australian connection should choose NordVPN. Proton VPN lists 281 Australian servers across five cities, 72 of them in Melbourne, and its Perth servers are physical. Its free tier doesn’t let users choose Australia, so 7plus requires the VPN Plus plan, priced at $2.99 a month over two years.
3. ExpressVPN: Best for One-Click Streaming
Pros
- Built-in speed test
- Automatic protocol choice
- Smart Location picker
Cons
- Unpublished server count
- High month-to-month price
ExpressVPN unblocked 7plus on its Australia – Perth server, and Seven’s live channel started in about 23 seconds, the quickest start we timed. It also unblocked on-demand titles and the AFL channel. Its Sydney server recorded its best Australian speed result, 125.26 Mbps. The app lists seven Australian locations in five cities, including Sydney – 2 and Woolloomooloo. Its 28-month Basic plan is $2.99 a month, or $83.72 up front. Month-to-month billing is $14.99, a high price for a single trip home.
Installing 7plus on a Fire TV Stick
The 7plus app isn’t in the Amazon Appstore outside Australia. It shows up once the Amazon account’s country is set to Australia, under Content and Devices in the Amazon account settings. That change applies to the whole account’s digital content. Then install the VPN app on the Fire TV Stick, connect to an Australian server, and download 7plus. Our Fire TV Stick VPN rankings compare the apps for that device.
On an iPhone, 7plus plays only through its app, which the App Store lists only for Apple IDs set to Australia. A Windows laptop is simpler: 7plus plays in the browser once the VPN connects, and our Windows VPN rankings compare desktop apps. For a television without VPN apps, see our smart TV VPN guide.
Fixing an Endless 7plus Spinner
- Spinner with no message: 7plus sees an IP address outside Australia. Check that the VPN shows an Australian server, then reload the page.
- Still spinning after connecting: clear the cookies for 7plus.com.au or use a private window, then try another Australian city.
- Live channel slow to start: wait 30 seconds before reloading. Reloading restarts the wait.
Channels, Shows, and Sport on 7plus
The service streams Seven, 7two, 7mate, 7flix, 7Bravo, and Racing.com live. Its guide also lists 24-hour channels built around single shows, such as Bondi Vet, All Saints, and Water Rats, which appeared during our test. Seven shows every AFL Finals Series match, and the Grand Final and Brownlow Medal are exclusive to Seven and 7plus Sport.
NFL games stream free each week of the season, alongside cricket, LIV Golf, and other live sports. Home and Away airs on weeknights, and the entertainment catalog includes My Kitchen Rules, Farmer Wants a Wife, and The Amazing Race Australia. Seven and 7plus have belonged to Southern Cross Media Group since the two companies merged in January 2026.
Free VPNs and Australian Servers
Windscribe, PrivadoVPN, and Hide.me keep their Australian servers for paying customers, so their free accounts can’t unblock 7plus. Proton VPN‘s free tier assigns a country automatically and doesn’t offer Australia as a choice. Watching 7plus from overseas requires a paid VPN.
Our Verdict
Sport fans should start with NordVPN. It recorded the fastest Australian speed in our test, which keeps a three-hour AFL or NFL broadcast from dropping quality. Expats who follow Home and Away for months at a time can save with Proton VPN. Its renewal price is lower than NordVPN’s. Those who switch between live channels often will wait less with ExpressVPN.
Fire TV Stick owners should sort out the Amazon account region first, since no VPN makes the 7plus app appear without it. Seven isn’t the only Australian broadcaster that blocks foreign visitors. Our Australian TV abroad guide covers 10, ABC, and the rest, and our SBS On Demand guide covers SBS. For British channels, see how to watch BBC iPlayer abroad.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you watch 7plus overseas?
Yes, with an Australian IP address. The service streams only to Australian connections, so a VPN server in Australia unblocks its live channels, sport, and catch-up library from overseas.
How do you install 7plus on a Firestick outside Australia?
Change the Amazon account's region to Australia, and the 7plus app shows up in the Appstore. Playback then works once the Fire TV Stick connects to a VPN server in Australia.
Is 7plus free?
Yes, 7plus is free to watch. Advertising funds the service, and an account costs nothing beyond a short registration with an email address and an Australian postcode.
Does 7plus work with a VPN?
Yes, if the VPN connects to an Australian server. NordVPN and Proton VPN operate servers in Perth and four other Australian cities that unblock 7plus live and on demand.
Is it legal to watch 7plus abroad with a VPN?
Yes, VPN use is legal in Australia and most other countries. The 7plus terms limit viewing to Australia, and a breach usually results in a blocked stream.
