How to Watch ITV and ITVX in Australia in 2026

I’m a Celebrity is filmed in New South Wales, yet viewers in Australia can’t stream it on ITVX, ITV’s own streaming service. The same goes for ITV’s live channels and the rest of its catalog. ITVX is free in the UK, but from an Australian connection, its shows don’t play.

That leaves British expats without the shows they grew up with, and Australians who follow ITV’s dramas waiting for a local release. A few ITV programs air on Australian services, often later than in the UK. For live channels and the full catalog, ITVX requires a UK IP address, and a VPN supplies one. Start with these four steps.

What Blocks ITVX in Australia

ITV’s terms limit ITVX to viewers in the UK, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man. ITVX reads your IP address to confirm you’re there before a stream starts, and from an Australian connection, nothing plays. In our tests from outside the UK, ITVX showed a black screen with no error message.

ITV’s help pages list ITV-101 as the error code for a non-UK location or a detected VPN. The ITVX iPhone app isn’t listed in Australia’s App Store either. With a VPN connected to a server in Britain, ITVX sees a UK IP address and plays as it would in London.

ITV Shows You Can Watch in Australia Without a VPN

• Coronation Street and Emmerdale: the BBC UKTV channel on Foxtel, Fetch, and Binge.

Live ITV and the Time Difference

A 9pm UK show starts between 6am and 8am in Sydney and Melbourne, depending on the time of year. In Brisbane, it’s 6am or 7am, and in Perth, 4am or 5am. Catch-up avoids the early starts. ITVX keeps most shows for about 30 days after they air, and an episode broadcast overnight can wait until the evening.

Its average speed loss was 10.2%, which is still fine for HD episodes. Its free plan chooses the server for you, and the UK isn’t a selectable location.

3. ExpressVPN: Best for Putting ITVX on a TV

ExpressVPN has three ways to put a UK location on a TV. MediaStreamer, its Smart DNS feature, works on a TV without a VPN app. The router app covers every device at home, and there’s an Apple TV app. Its average speed loss was 7.8%, the same as NordVPN’s. ITVX detected the ExpressVPN app a few times in our tests.

Enabling location spoofing in its browser extension unblocked ITVX again. There’s also little to configure beyond the basics, and viewers who like to fine-tune will find more controls in NordVPN. Fixing ITVX Errors From Australia

Most ITVX errors from Australia are location problems:

• Black screen or ITV-101 error: clear itv.com’s cookies and reload, or connect to another UK server.
• ITV1 redirects to STV Player: this happened on several UK servers in our tests. STV Player streams ITV1’s programs for most of Scotland, and it played normally on the three VPNs.
• No ITVX app in your app store: use itv.com in a laptop browser, and connect the laptop to your TV with an HDMI cable for a bigger screen.
• ExpressVPN is detected: enable location spoofing in its browser extension.
