We’ll get NordVPN out of the way first because it’s a no-log VPN with a privacy-friendly jurisdiction (Panama) and several third-party audits. We won’t bother you with all the details because the conclusion is simple; NordVPN does NOT store any sensitive logs.
Avast, on the other hand, had a fair share of scandals. A recent one in 2024 saw the company being hit by a multi-million dollar fine because of selling user data to more than 100 clients i.e. third-party companies according to CNN. That’s the opposite of its promises.

For instance, the dedicated server in the UK worked with BBC iPlayer, which was useful for watching sports live with the VPN. On the other hand, platforms like Prime Video and ESPN Plus were impossible to access with Avast VPN, which simply lacks “firepower”.
NordVPN doesn’t have streaming servers but all servers are optimized for this activity either way. This is why it works with dozens of Netflix libraries and other “stubborn” streaming services. NordVPN is also great for watching the Super Bowl live for free and enjoying Hulu abroad.
A big advantage is a browser extension, which supports location spoofing for added confidence. Avsat SecureLine VPN offer torrenting servers but so does NordVPN. The difference is that torrenting is limited to these servers in the former.
Trying a P2P download with a “normal” server will simply make the download speed 0b/s i.e. it won’t work. NordVPN’s P2P servers are optimized for torrenting, providing excellent performance and speed. However, you can also use its other servers without issues.

During our NordVPN tests, we had the opposite experience. Unlike Mimic, obfuscated servers that used OpenVPN TCP worked wonderfully, allowing us to get over the Great Firewall.

However, so does NordVPN – specifically in Turkey and Russia, where it’s very reliable. If you need a VPN for school to bypass the local firewall, both will suffice. Still, we’d rather use NordVPN because of its overall reliability.
