US Disclaimer: Gambling law differs by country, and in the United States it differs by state. This guide is for people in places where online gambling and sports betting are legal and licensed, and it covers protecting a legitimate account. It doesn't explain how to register, deposit, or place a bet from a location where the operator or the law prohibits it. Most US states don't offer legal online casino play, and offshore sites that accept US customers aren't licensed in any US state.

Using a VPN to misrepresent your location breaks the terms of every licensed operator, and it can end in a closed account and a confiscated balance. It can also break state or national law. We're not lawyers, and this isn't legal advice. Check the rules that apply where you are. If gambling has stopped being fun, US residents can call 1-800-GAMBLER.

Betano is a brand shared by several different companies. Kaizen Gaming operates it through separate licensed entities in each market, and your account belongs to exactly one of them. The British site is BV Gaming Limited, a Gibraltar company licensed by the Gambling Commission. Brazil, Romania, Portugal, and Ontario each answer to their own regulator, with their own wallet and terms.

That structure decides the rest. There is no Betano in the United States and no path to one. What a VPN does here is encrypt the session on networks you don’t own. Narrow, and worth having.

What Betano’s Terms Say About VPNs

The VPN clause isn’t in the section on restricted territories. It’s in the definitions. Betano defines Bonus Abuse to include using a VPN or masking your IP address to enter a promotion or obtain a bonus you wouldn’t otherwise be eligible for. Section 15.2(q) then lists Bonus Abuse as a Prohibited Practice, which puts it alongside collusion, fraud, and multiple accounts.

Under 15.5(a), the account is limited or suspended without notification while Betano investigates, and funds can’t be accessed or withdrawn for the duration. Under 15.7(b), a confirmed Prohibited Practice lets the company withhold all or part of the balance and recover deposits, payouts, and winnings. Section 15.8 adds that Betano may report the customer to regulators, banks, and payment processors.

Section 4.1(i) sets the baseline: a customer in a country where the service is prohibited must not register, must not attempt to use the service, and must not use a payment method to gamble with it.

What Happens to a Betano Account Abroad

Traveling is the question most Betano customers have, and section 6.2 answers it. Betano isn’t permitted to let people in certain territories open accounts, and it doesn’t permit accounts to be accessed and operated in those territories either. The terms spell out the travel case: register in a country where gambling is legal, travel to a country Betano can’t operate in, and you may lose access to the service.

The list of prohibited territories can change without prior notice. So the honest position on a trip is that access depends on where you land, and the terms give no assurance either way. What travels reliably is the encryption. A VPN keeps hotel Wi-Fi, airport networks and your ISP from seeing which bookmaker you use, and that applies in every market Betano serves.

What Betano Asks For at Verification

Most accounts get stuck at verification, and section 4.4 sets out 4 separate checks. They can be repeated at any point in an account’s life. The Identity Check takes a passport, driving licence or national ID, a utility bill or bank statement from the last 3 months, and sometimes a photo of you holding the document. The Source of Funds check asks for wage slips, dividend paperwork, inheritance letters or property transfer forms.

The Occupation and Salary check wants a P60, pension statement, or bank statements showing regular salary payments. The Age Check confirms you’re 18. Until those clear, section 4.8 lets Betano restrict the account, block transactions, and stop withdrawals. If they can’t be completed, the account is suspended and ultimately closed, and Betano may be required to withhold the funds in it.

Section 8.5 permits only payment methods in your own name, with no third-party or corporate accounts, and a deposit from a method you aren’t entitled to use voids any winnings from it. Section 11.5 sends withdrawals back to the same method the money came in through.

1. NordVPN: Fastest Betano VPN in Testing

Nordvpn Betano
© Gizmodo

Pros

  • Fastest in testing
  • Post-quantum NordLynx
  • RAM-only servers
  • Six Deloitte audits
  • Threat Protection Pro

Cons

  • Complicated interface
  • Higher renewal price

NordVPN lost the least speed of the 5 in our tests, around 13%, the difference between a live price refreshing cleanly and a bet slip timing out. Coverage is 9,500+ servers in 149 countries, all on 10 Gbps ports with no bandwidth limit. Encryption is quantum-secure over NordLynx, and our NordVPN testing also leaned on Threat Protection to filter malware and ads.

Every server operates from memory, and Deloitte has audited the no-logs policy 6 times, most recently in February 2026. The Basic plan starts at $3.49/mo for 2 years; Complete adds the extras at $4.50. All plans refund within 30 days.

Pros

  • Open-source apps
  • Secure Core double hop
  • NetShield ad blocking
  • VPN Accelerator
  • Swiss jurisdiction

Cons

  • No Smart DNS
  • Higher renewal cost

Proton VPN came within a point of NordVPN on speed, losing about 14%, and it publishes more about itself than any rival. Every app is open source and independently audited, and Swiss law puts foreign data requests through a Swiss court. Secure Core adds a second hop before the exit server, so the exit never learns where the session began.

NetShield filters trackers, ads, and malicious URLs at the DNS level. Two years of Plus costs $2.99 per month, refundable within 30 days, and the free tier suits light use. Its Stealth protocol also makes Proton VPN usable in China.

Pros

  • One-click apps
  • Lightway Turbo protocol
  • Strong leak protection
  • KPMG-verified policy
  • Very high port speeds

Cons

  • Fewer advanced features
  • No malware scanning

ExpressVPN is plug-and-play. Open it, pick a location, connect, and it asks nothing else of you afterwards. Our tests put its speed loss near 16%, a solid figure for Lightway Turbo, which is built more for stability than raw throughput. Security covers 256-bit encryption, a kill switch, and dependable IP and DNS leak protection, with Advanced Protection filtering malicious sites, trackers, and ads.

KPMG last verified the no-logs policy in mid-2025, and the estate is RAM-only, with some servers on 40 Gbps ports. Device limits start at 10 and extend to 14 on higher tiers. Basic is priced at $2.99 per month. Where it gives ground to NordVPN and Proton VPN is configurability.

Pros

  • Unlimited devices
  • Adjustable cipher strength
  • Court-tested logging claim
  • MACE ad filtering

Cons

  • Could be faster
  • Dated interface

PIA costs $2.19 per month over 2 years and exposes more settings than the rest combined. Encryption steps between 128-bit and 256-bit depending on whether you want speed or strength, WireGuard keeps connections stable, and the network covers 91 countries on RAM-based hardware with no device ceiling.

The no-logs policy was audited in 2022, 2024, and 2025, and US courts have sought PIA’s records and come away with nothing.MACE filters ads and trackers. Antivirus is a paid add-on that brings the total near $3.60 a month, which is still below what several rivals charge for the VPN alone. A 30-day guarantee applies.

Pros

  • Unlimited connections
  • Rotating IP addresses
  • Configurable MultiHop
  • Antivirus on mid tier

Cons

  • Price climbs on renewal
  • Slower to connect

Surfshark puts no ceiling on connections, so a phone, laptop, and tablet share one $2.49 per month subscription. Its Rotating IP changes your address every 5 to 10 minutes in the same country, which keeps the location constant while the address moves. MultiHop is fully configurable now, with selectable entry and exit servers. Two fast protocols are available: WireGuard everywhere and Dausos on macOS.

Our testing showed speed loss staying under 20%. The mid-tier One plan at about $2.80 adds antivirus and light ID monitoring, and the top tier bundles Incogni, which appears on our identity theft protection list..

Is a Free VPN Enough for Betano?

Not for an account with money in it. Free plans cap data, slow down as their servers fill, and the ad-funded ones cover their costs by selling usage data, which is the wrong thing to attach to a betting cashier. Only Proton VPN’s free plan escapes that. It sets no data ceiling, shows no ads, and applies its paid logging policy.

It takes away control instead: 10 countries, an assigned server, a single device. Every paid pick here refunds within 30 days, which makes a proper trial cheaper than living with a free plan’s limits.

How We Tested

  • Speed. Betting is time-sensitive, so we measured retention and latency on each service. NordVPN preserved about 87% of the baseline.
  • Leak protection. We checked each app for IP, DNS, and WebRTC leaks with the kill switch active and during forced disconnects.
  • Audit record. We counted published external audits and, where they exist, court cases that tested a no-logs claim.
  • Coverage. Country counts across the five range from 91 to 149, which determines whether a nearby server exists in your own market.
  • Price. Entry prices span $2.19 to $3.49 a month, with a 30-day money-back guarantee on every one.

Conclusion

Betano is one brand with a different licensed company behind it in every market, and an account belongs to just one of them. No US state licenses any of those, and the terms make VPN use a Prohibited Practice through the Bonus Abuse definition, with suspension without notice and a withheld balance as the consequence. For a legitimate account in a market Betano serves, a VPN adds encryption.

NordVPN was the fastest. Proton VPN publishes the most about itself. ExpressVPN needs the least attention, PIA comes in cheapest, and Surfshark stretches across a household. If a subscription doesn’t suit, all five refund within 30 days.
