How Much the Proton VPN Coupon Saves
VPN Plus is Proton VPN’s standard paid plan, and the coupon lowers its price. The longer the term, the bigger the discount. With Proton’s Black Friday sale, the two-year VPN Plus plan costs about $2.50 a month, compared to about $10 on monthly billing. The one-year term is a middle ground at about $4 a month.
| Plan length | Discount | Price per month |
|---|---|---|
| 2 years | 75% | $2.49 |
| 1 year | 60% | $3.99 |
| 1 month | 0% | $9.99 |
Proton VPN bills the whole term at once, so the two-year plan is a single payment that covers 24 months. The discount applies to that first term. After it, the plan renews yearly at the regular price. To pick a new deal when the term ends instead, disable auto-renewal in your Proton account after you subscribe.
Proton Unlimited, the bundle with Proton Mail, Proton Pass, and 500 GB of Proton Drive storage, is on sale too: a one-year term is 50% off, at about $6.50 a month.
For best savings, I’d really go with the two-year plan. It has the lowest monthly price, and the 30-day money-back guarantee covers it the same way it covers the shorter terms. At that price, Proton VPN is one of the best-value VPNs you can subscribe to right now.
Proton VPN Gift Codes and Coupon Codes
No coupon code is required for this discount. The link applies it before checkout, and the lower prices show on the plan cards right away, so there’s nothing to copy or paste.
Proton gift codes work differently. They come from gift cards sold on the Proton Shop, and each one adds credit to a Proton account. To redeem one, sign in to your account, go to Subscription, then Gift code, and enter it. For a new purchase, the Add a gift code field under the order summary at checkout does the same thing.
Proton VPN warns that gift cards sold outside its official website are fake. Some of the sites offering them are phishing pages built to steal login details. If a code comes from an unofficial website, skip it and use the discount link instead.
Does Proton VPN Have a Free Trial?
Not in the usual sense, but two options come close. The first is the 30-day money-back guarantee on every paid plan. Subscribe, use the VPN Plus plan for a few weeks, and ask Proton VPN’s support for a refund if it isn’t for you.
The guarantee covers the two-year, one-year, and monthly terms, and the Proton VPN free trial guide explains how to use it as a trial. Pay by card, PayPal, or Bitcoin if there’s a chance you’ll cancel, because cash and bank transfer payments aren’t refundable.
When it’s time to ask for your money back, the steps to cancel Proton VPN and request a refund take a few minutes. The second option is the free plan, which costs nothing and has no time limit. You can use it indefinitely, and there’s no data cap to worry about.
It’s an unlimited-data free VPN, limited to one device and a short list of countries, and the app picks the server for you. That’s enough for safer browsing on public Wi-Fi. Still, the free plan doesn’t include Secure Core, NetShield, or streaming support.
Upgrade to VPN Plus if you want to watch shows from home while traveling.
What the Proton VPN Plus Plan Includes
The discounted plan is the same full version covered in our Proton VPN review. The coupon changes the price, and every tool stays the same:
- Servers in 149 countries. With more than 20,000 servers, there’s usually one near you, plus one in the country whose websites you want to use while abroad.
- Secure Core. Your traffic goes through a second server in a privacy-friendly country such as Switzerland or Iceland. That helps on hotel or airport Wi-Fi in countries with heavy surveillance.
- NetShield. It blocks ads, trackers, and malicious websites, so news sites stay cleaner and a mistyped link is less likely to lead to a scam page.
- Fast servers. Proton VPN pairs 10 Gbps servers with WireGuard and VPN Accelerator, its technology for faster connections, so 4K streams and big downloads keep their speed.
- Streaming and torrenting. VPN Plus unblocks popular streaming services, including Netflix. It also supports P2P traffic and port forwarding, which lets other devices connect straight to yours for faster torrent downloads.
- Stealth protocol. It makes VPN traffic look like ordinary web traffic, which is useful on school, office, or hotel networks that block VPNs.
- 10 devices. One subscription covers your phone, laptop, tablet, and TV at the same time.
- Audited no-logs policy. Proton VPN is based in Switzerland, and independent audits confirmed it keeps no record of what you do online, which makes it one of the top-rated VPNs for privacy.
Final Thoughts
Saving on Proton VPN is mostly about picking the right term. With the discount link, the two-year VPN Plus plan has the lowest price Proton VPN offers. For a Swiss VPN with an independently audited no-logs policy, Secure Core and servers in almost every country, that’s a very good deal.
It’s a good fit for those who want privacy, ad blocking, and streaming in one subscription and don’t mind paying for two years up front. If that’s too long a commitment, the one-year plan costs only a little more per month. If you only browse on public Wi-Fi now and then, the free plan covers that without a subscription.
My advice is to ignore codes from unofficial websites and stick to the official offer, which already includes the biggest discount. Choose the two-year term at checkout, and the discount does the rest.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Proton VPN have a promo code?
No, the main Proton VPN discount requires no promo code. It applies automatically through an affiliate link, and the lower price shows on the plan cards before checkout begins.
Where can a Proton gift card be bought?
Proton sells gift cards only through the Proton Shop on its official website. Proton considers cards sold elsewhere fake, and some of those sites are phishing pages targeting account logins.
Does the Proton VPN discount apply to renewals?
No. The discount covers the first billing term only. After that, the VPN Plus plan renews at the standard yearly price, and auto-renewal can be disabled in the account dashboard.
Does Proton VPN offer a lifetime subscription?
No, Proton VPN doesn’t sell lifetime plans. Its paid options are monthly, one-year and two-year VPN Plus subscriptions, so any lifetime account offered by a third party isn’t an official deal.
Is the discounted Proton VPN plan limited in any way?
No. The discounted VPN Plus plan includes the same servers, Secure Core, NetShield, Stealth protocol and device limit as a full-price subscription. Only the price changes.
Can Proton VPN be paid for with PayPal?
Yes. Proton VPN accepts PayPal and major credit cards, along with Bitcoin and cash. Only card and PayPal payments qualify for the money-back guarantee, so they’re the safer choice.
