NordVPN had the lowest ping to Turkey, South Africa, and Singapore, and ExpressVPN to the other five regions, though by only a few milliseconds in Egypt and Brazil. Proton VPN didn’t lead any region, and its ping to Egypt was about 40 ms above the other two.

Treat the figures as a guide, since in-game ping depends on where Activision hosts the match. From Europe, Turkey and Egypt keep ping low enough for close fights. India, Argentina, Brazil and Vietnam work for XP grinding, but ping past roughly 150 ms makes shots register late.

Players in North America will see lower ping to Argentina and Brazil and higher ping to Turkey and Egypt. Open matchmaking puts connection quality ahead of skill. Team RICOCHET also tightened ping limits in Black Ops 6 and Warzone in 2024 to curb VPN lobbies. A distant server can therefore mean long queues.

SBMM in Black Ops 7: What a VPN Changes

Black Ops 7 launched in November 2025 with Open matchmaking, where skill is only minimally considered. Season 5 then added Classic matchmaking to Black Ops Classic, Quick Play, and party games, and many players say it’s stricter.

Activision hasn’t announced a ban on VPN use itself. However, Team RICOCHET’s 2024 changes in Black Ops 6 and Warzone targeted VPN abuse by tightening ping limits, so players stay in their own region. The company’s enforcement policy also lets it act on any account that breaks its terms.

A suspected violation can put an account into limited matchmaking, where it’s matched with other flagged accounts. Repeat or serious cases can end in a temporary or permanent ban. Switching regions to get easier lobbies is the use Activision is targeting, so it puts the account at risk.
