NordVPN’s prices look simple at first: a low monthly figure, a large discount badge, and a money-back guarantee. The checkout, however, shows more detail. A NordVPN subscription is paid for the whole term at once, the price increases sharply at renewal, and the three plans add very different extras. Outside the US, the top plan even goes by a different name.
So how much does NordVPN cost once everything is added up, and which plan gives the most for the money? The answer depends on how long you commit and how much you’ll use the extras. Here’s what each plan costs.
Quick Note: NordVPN changes its prices and bonus offers often, especially around Black Friday and other holidays, so the total at checkout may differ slightly. Our links always lead to NordVPN’s current deal.

- Shortest commitment: monthly billing from $14.99

- Refunds: 30-day money-back guarantee on new subscriptions
NordVPN Prices by Plan and Term
NordVPN’s lowest price is $3.49 a month, for the Basic plan on a two-year term. The whole term is charged at checkout, so that plan costs $94.23 for the first 27 months, including three bonus months. That’s 69% off NordVPN’s standard rate, and the Complete and Prime plans follow the same pattern:
| Basic | Complete | Prime | |
| 2-year plan, per month | $3.49 | $4.49 | $7.49 |
| 2-year plan, first 27 months | $94.23 (69% off) | $121.23 (75% off) | $202.23 (69% off) |
| 1-year plan, per month | $5.49 | $6.49 | $9.49 |
| 1-year plan, first year | $65.88 (52% off) | $77.88 (64% off) | $113.88 (61% off) |
| Monthly plan | $14.99 | $19.99 | $29.99 |
| Renewal, per year | $139.08 | $219.48 | $296.28 |
These are US prices, and sales tax may apply on top. The one-year plan costs more per month than the two-year plan, and monthly billing has no discount. Over a year, monthly billing on the Basic plan adds up to $179.88, compared with $65.88 for the one-year plan.
We’d only choose monthly billing for a short trip or a single event. Also, NordVPN adds bonus months to the two-year plan during most promotions. As a result, the length of that first term can change from one offer to the next.
What Each NordVPN Plan Includes
Every plan includes the full VPN: servers in 152 countries and ten simultaneous connections. Instead of changing the VPN, the plans add different security tools around it:
| Basic | Complete | Prime | |
| VPN on 10 devices | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Scam and phishing protection | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Dark Web Monitor | Up to 5 emails | 8 emails, plus phone, card, and SSN | 8 emails, plus phone, card, and SSN |
| Next-gen antivirus (desktop) | No | Yes | Yes |
| Ad and tracker blocker (desktop) | No | Yes | Yes |
| Password manager | No | Yes | Yes |
| 1 TB encrypted cloud storage | No | Yes | Yes |
| Call and message protection | No | Yes | Yes |
| Bank transaction monitoring | No | Yes | Yes |
| Coveron identity protection | No | No | Yes |
In everyday use, the three plans differ like this:
- Basic plan: the VPN with light protection. It flags scam and phishing pages and checks up to five email addresses against data leaks, which is enough for streaming, travel, or public Wi-Fi.
- Complete plan: everything in the Basic plan, plus:
- Next-gen antivirus on Windows and Mac, which checks downloads for malware and filters out malicious sites, ads, and trackers. It turns NordVPN into a VPN with antivirus.
- NordPass for passwords
- 1 TB of end-to-end encrypted NordLocker storage, large enough for photos, documents, and even a video library in the cloud
- Bank transaction monitoring, which works with US bank accounts only
- Prime plan: everything in the Complete plan, plus Coveron, the identity protection service formerly called NordProtect. It includes identity theft insurance with coverage of up to $1 million, cyber extortion cover, credit freeze help, and TransUnion credit monitoring. Coveron is sold only in the US.
Basic, Complete, or Prime: Our Pick
We think the Complete plan is the best value for most people. On a two-year term, it costs $1 more a month than the Basic plan. That extra money buys antivirus, a password manager, and 1 TB of encrypted storage, three tools many people pay for separately.
Then there’s the catch at renewal. The Complete plan renews at $219.48 a year, compared with $139.08 for the Basic plan. If the extras go unused by then, the Basic plan costs far less to keep. The other two plans make sense in narrower cases:
- The Basic plan has the lowest renewal price and covers the VPN itself, which is all many people use.
- The Prime plan adds $3 a month to the Complete plan’s price on a 2-year term. In the US, it’s good value if you’d otherwise pay for identity theft insurance and credit monitoring.
NordVPN Renewal Prices and How to Cancel Auto-Renewal
NordVPN’s low prices apply to the first term only. After that, every plan renews at its standard rate, and the two-year plan renews for one year at a time:
- Basic plan: $139.08 a year, or about $11.59 a month
- Complete plan: $219.48 a year, or about $18.29 a month
- Prime plan: $296.28 a year, or about $24.69 a month
For the Basic plan, that’s more than three times the two-year rate. Auto-renewal is enabled by default, so NordVPN charges the new price unless you cancel it.
To disable it, sign in to Nord Account, open Billing, and select Cancel next to Auto-renewal. After that, your subscription remains active until the paid term ends. If you subscribed through Apple’s App Store or Google Play, cancel in the store’s subscription settings instead.
Renewal payments also aren’t covered by the money-back guarantee. To move to a higher plan, choose Manage plan in Nord Account. The upgrade starts when your current subscription ends.

A few other details also change by country:
- Taxes: VAT is added at checkout in France, Germany, and the UK, GST in Australia, and federal and provincial sales taxes in Canada.
- Shorter terms in France and Germany: the one-year plan is €5.49 a month for the Basic plan and €6.49 for the Complete plan, while monthly billing costs €14.99 or €19.99.
- Local plan names: NordVPN’s French site calls the Basic and Complete plans Basique and Premium, and the German site calls them Basis and Komplett.
How the Top Plans Differ by Region
The Basic and Complete plans include the same core tools everywhere, apart from a few US-only identity features. Each region’s top plan adds something different:
- Prime (US): the Complete plan plus Coveron identity protection and insurance.
- Ultimate Max (France, Germany, the UK, and a few other European countries): the Complete plan plus a dedicated IP address and cyber insurance. The insurance covers scam losses and identity theft recovery up to €5,000 or £5,000.
- Ultra (Canada and most other EU countries): the Complete plan plus Incogni, a service that asks data brokers to delete your personal information.
- Complete Max (Australia and other regions): the Complete plan with a dedicated IP address added.
How to Pay Less for NordVPN
In practice, NordVPN almost always has a discount on offer, so few people pay its list prices. A few habits keep the cost down further:
- Choose the 2-year plan. It has the lowest monthly rate of any term.
- Start from a deal link. Our NordVPN coupon applies the current discount automatically.
- Wait for a seasonal sale. NordVPN’s deepest discounts usually arrive around Black Friday and the winter holidays.
- Buy on the website. App Store prices differ from NordVPN’s own, and NordVPN can’t refund App Store payments.
- Compare before you buy. Other VPN deals can beat NordVPN on price, but often with fewer features.
At checkout, NordVPN accepts credit and debit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and several cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin. Some retail stores also sell prepaid NordVPN cards for cash. The options depend on your country and currency.
NordVPN Free Trial and Money-Back Guarantee

Every new NordVPN subscription comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. When you request a refund through live chat within 30 days of your purchase, NordVPN returns the full amount. Purchases made through Apple or a retailer are refunded by that store instead.
NordVPN also has two free trials:
- 7-day web trial: the NordVPN free trial covers one-year and two-year plans on the top tier, such as the Prime plan in the US, in about 15 countries. Only cards and PayPal work for it, and it converts to a paid plan unless canceled before day seven.
- 3-day Android trial: first-time Android users get three free days when they subscribe through Google Play.
What You Get for the Price
NordVPN isn’t the cheapest VPN, but our NordVPN review explains where the extra money goes, and we believe it’s very well justified.
Speed and Streaming
In our latest tests on Canadian servers, NordVPN had the smallest speed loss of any VPN we tested.

It also unblocked Netflix Australia in our tests, one of many Netflix libraries NordVPN works with. Its Smart DNS brings the same streaming access to smart TVs.
Privacy and Security
Deloitte has audited NordVPN’s no-logs policy several times, and its RAM-only servers wipe all data on every restart. Its home country, Panama, also has no mandatory data retention law.

Every plan also includes Double VPN, which encrypts traffic twice, plus obfuscated servers and the NordWhisper protocol for networks that block VPN traffic. Onion over VPN also sends traffic through Tor, a setup often used to access the dark web more safely.

Torrenting and Gaming
NordVPN allows P2P traffic, and its SOCKS5 proxy can speed up downloads in a torrent client. Combined with the kill switch, that setup lets you download torrents safely.

For gaming, NordVPN’s speed also keeps ping low on nearby servers. Roblox played normally on PC with NordVPN connected, and NordVPN tops our Xbox VPN ranking.

Consoles don’t support VPN apps, so NordVPN covers them through a router, and it also ranks among our top router VPNs.
Conclusion
The $3.49 monthly rate comes with two conditions: the full two-year term is paid at checkout, and the Basic plan renews at $139.08 a year. Still, within those limits, NordVPN is strong value, given its speed and privacy record.
In most case, and for most people, we’d choose the Complete plan, mainly for its antivirus and password manager. However, the Basic plan remains the better buy for VPN-only use.
And if Black Friday is a few weeks away, waiting for NordVPN’s seasonal deal usually lowers the first-term price further.
