XVideos and XNXX work normally in Alabama, with no account or age check. On the other end, Pornhub’s sister sites and xHamster show only a block notice. The cam sites remain available behind an age check.

Chaturbate offers an email check, an ID scan, or Yoti, a face-based age estimate. Stripchat blurs its streams until you verify. Eporner, meanwhile, requires a free account with a confirmed email address.

How to Watch Pornhub in Alabama

Connect a VPN to a server outside Alabama, in a place without an age verification law, and open Pornhub. The site then treats you as a visitor from that place. New York, Illinois, and Canada are good choices, and the top VPNs for the USA have servers there. Nearby states don’t help, since Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida have similar laws.

Alabama’s Porn Law in Plain Terms

The rules come from HB 164, which Governor Ivey signed in April 2024:

• In force since: October 1, 2024
• Who it covers: websites where adult material makes up more than one-third of the content
• Accepted checks: any reasonable commercial age-verification method, with no single method required
• Privacy: personal details used for the check can’t be stored afterward
• Warnings: covered sites must show health warnings and a helpline notice
• Enforcement: the Attorney General can seek up to $10,000 per violation, and parents can sue
• Tax: 10% on revenue from adult material sold in Alabama, since September 1, 2025, funding mental health services

No lawsuit has challenged HB 164. Texas also defended a near-identical law at the US Supreme Court in June 2025 and won, which makes a successful challenge in Alabama unlikely.

Why Aylo and xHamster Left Alabama

Aylo owns Pornhub, YouPorn, RedTube, Tube8, and Brazzers, and it decided against checking IDs. It cut off Alabama around September 26, 2024, before the law took effect. Aylo did the same in North Carolina and other states with similar rules. Pornhub has since replaced the block with a login page for existing members, while new sign-ups remain closed.

xHamster made the same choice. Its Alabama page names HB 164. Its notice makes the same case as Aylo: verify ages once, on the device, instead of on every site.

The argument is about privacy. Each site-level check sends an ID or a face scan to a third-party company, and adults have no say in how it’s protected.

More Age Rules for Alabama Phones and Apps

Alabama has added two laws aimed at devices since HB 164:

• SB 186, since October 1, 2025: phones and tablets activated in Alabama must enable an adult-content filter for minors
• HB 161, from January 1, 2027: app stores must check users’ ages and obtain a parent’s consent before minors download apps

Neither law blocks adults or mentions VPNs. On a shared family phone, though, the filter can block adult sites until you set the account up as an adult’s.

Is It Legal to Use a VPN in Alabama?

Yes. No Alabama law restricts VPNs, and HB 164 doesn’t mention them. VPNs are legal across the US. Among US states, only Utah has written VPN use into an age verification law, and a federal court suspended that section in September 2026. Wisconsin also dropped a similar idea before the governor vetoed its bill.

Using a VPN to watch legal adult content isn’t a crime in Alabama. Some sites’ terms of service prohibit it, though.

Can You Watch Pornhub in Alabama Without a VPN?

Not on Pornhub itself, unless you already have a verified account. Tor Browser can load Pornhub, but streaming HD video through it isn’t practical. Tor exists for privacy and the dark web. Free web proxies didn’t work with Pornhub in our tests.

They don’t encrypt your traffic either, so the proxy’s owner can see every page you visit. Without a VPN, XVideos and XNXX remain the free sites that work normally in Alabama. They don’t hide your browsing from your internet provider, however.

Conclusion

Alabama’s law closed Pornhub, its sister sites, and xHamster to the state. XVideos and XNXX still work, and the cam sites require an age check. A VPN connected to New York, Illinois, or Canada brings back the blocked sites, and it keeps your browsing away from your internet provider.
