Unfortunately, Brave VPN left a lukewarm impression, while NordVPN, in all its glory, still goes strong, even after nearly two decades on the market. Today’s Brave VPN vs NordVPN comparison outlines their features, prices, plans, and other relevant VPN aspects. While the latter is the winner, the former has some merits.

Applications & Ease of Use
Let’s immediately dive into their applications and compatibility. Compatibility-wise, Brave VPN works on macOS, iOS, Android, and Windows. It offers an in-browser VPN, which means it lacks a dedicated client. Unlike most other Chrome VPNs or any other browser VPN, Brave VPN protects all traffic!
This is essential to mention, as many would think this is another glorified proxy.
On the downside, Brave VPN’s compatibility doesn’t extend to other platforms. Even on a phone, the VPN is hidden within the browser, and the company didn’t put in enough effort to make a dedicated app. Of course, don’t expect support for Linux distros or devices like Apple TV, Fire TV Stick, or any other Smart TV.
NordVPN remedies all that by offering full-fledged, dedicated apps for all devices your open mind can fathom. Even Linux is supported, and if you want, you can set it up on a router for added encryption. NordVPN’s browser VPN extensions are phenomenal, offering a few unique features.
There’s location spoofing to counteract stubborn restrictions and WebRTC Leak Protection to ensure no data leaks to the public. During our NordVPN vs Brave VPN assessment, we noticed that both VPNs offer ten simultaneous connections, which was more than sufficient for our demands..
Are They Easy to Use?
Ease of use is up next, and here, we believe both VPNs are astounding.
Brave VPN takes the lead, as its barren app leaves no room for mistakes. Once subscribed, you can activate your VPN within the browser. You’ll see a small app with a connection button and a server list. Pick the server, connect to it with a click, and you’re done. Everything is buttery-smooth.

The VPN functions identically on iOS and Android. The only difference is that, on iOS, it offers a kill switch. On other platforms, you get no tangible features. More about that in a second.
Meanwhile, NordVPN looks like this:

It’s much more complex, but as you likely know, VPNs are straightforward. You’ll get a server list on the left, where you can connect by clicking or tapping the country. NordVPN connects in seconds and encrypts your traffic. The mobile app resembles the same feeling, so there’s no learning curve.
We like NordVPN’s lavish design with the interactive world map and an excellent visual appeal. Meanwhile, its numerous settings are cleverly sorted out, while highlighting features, like Threat Protection Pro and others, occupy the left “sidebar” for easier access.
Winner: NordVPN 🏆
In our NordVPN vs Brave VPN comparison, we had zero issues with their apps; they were undoubtedly enjoyable. However, NordVPN takes the lead for its vastly superior compatibility and feature-rich apps.
Price Comparison: Brave VPN vs NordVPN
Before we dive deeper into their features, let’s examine their prices.
Brave VPN is non-flexible and offers two subscription plans: annual and monthly. You can spend $99.99 annually or $9.99 monthly, rendering the annual plan more cost-effective. However, Brave VPN won’t charge you immediately. It’ll let you test the service for a week as part of its free trial.

You’ll provide credit card info, but as always, you can cancel timely and avoid getting charged if you don’t want to. Now, let’s compare this to NordVPN, which offers four plan tiers and three lengths: monthly, annual, and biennial. We’ll inspect biennial plans because they’re the least expensive.

The least you’ll spend on NordVPN is about $84 for the first 27 months, as each biennial plan offers three free months. The Plus plan, NordVPN’s top pick, is about $108, and so on. However, each tier offers more bonus tools, such as malware blocking, a password manager, and encrypted cloud storage with 1 TB of space.
Let’s say you pick NordVPN’s Prime plan at about seven quid. Paid upfront, it’s about $190 for 27 months. Simultaneously, you’ll spend about $100 for one year with Brave VPN, which offers almost no features and is, as you’ll see, drastically slower and less reliable.
NordVPN’s prices are much more favorable, plus, you get a 30-day money-back guarantee for all plans, so you can at least enjoy it for a month before deciding on the next step. And before you ask, NordVPN also has a 7-day free trial, which you can get by signing up on an Android device.
Winner: NordVPN 🏆
NordVPN costs less and provides more, so we don’t need to do any math. It’s worth noting that NordVPN’s renewal prices are slightly higher, but either way, you may spend a tad more for a VPN that’s already so much better, faster, and capable. NordVPN ultimately offers better value for money.
Features Analysis
To prove what we said, we need to examine their features.
In our NordVPN vs Brave VPN duel, we were staggered at how underwhelming the latter was. You may not always need a feature-rich VPN, but if we’re discussing one, it shouldn’t cost a fortune. Well, Brave VPN seems to think otherwise. Let us explain further.
Similarities
NordVPN and Brave VPN share only two similarities:
- Bank-grade 256-bit encryption
- Kill switch (available on all devices in NordVPN and only on iOS in Brave VPN)
That’s nearly all! We can also mention Brave VPN’s WireGuard inclusion, which is always welcome for added speed and security. As you’ll see, it doesn’t do much performance-wise. Meanwhile, NordVPN uses NordLynx, which is WireGuard at its core, but slightly improved privacy-wise by NordVPN.
Other than that, these VPNs offer some forms of advanced protection.
Brave VPN has a firewall, which protects against trackers, ads, and malware. NordVPN’s Threat Protection Pro does the same, but offers more robust protection, thanks to real-time download protection that scans your device for malicious downloads. Brave VPN doesn’t let you customize its firewall, which is a shame.
We should mention a few basic features that NordVPN has, and that Brave VPN should introduce. These include split tunneling, a selection of protocols, RAM-based servers, and Private DNS.
Unique Features
We’ve confirmed that Brave VPN doesn’t offer unique features in our review. That’s not to say it’s unsafe. In fact, neither VPN displayed IP or DNS leaks in our tests, which was commendable. Still, NordVPN goes not one, not two, but hundreds of steps further to provide even more security.
These include:
- Double VPN servers for encrypting traffic twice by routing it through two servers in different countries.
- Threat Protection Pro, which blocks malware, ads, and trackers, and supports real-time malware scans.
- NordWhisper, a protocol designed to combat network filtering everywhere.
- Onion over VPN servers, designed for use with Tor when you need access to the dark web safely and anonymously.
- NordPass, an optional add-on in the Plus plan, serving as a password manager for creating and storing your passwords safely.
- NordLocker, encrypted cloud storage with 1 TB of space, advanced file-sharing, and a no-logging policy.
- An advanced kill switch, which can work on the system level or on a per-app basis.
- NordProtect, an ID theft protection service with dark web monitoring.
As you can see, NordVPN offers at least a dozen more features compared to Brave VPN. While some are optional and available in higher-tier plans, NordVPN at least has them, and they function correctly, ensuring the level of protection that surpasses the possibilities of a run-of-the-mill VPN, like Brave.
Winner: NordVPN 🏆
This isn’t even a fair comparison. NordVPN blew Brave VPN out of the water with more robust security features that ideally complement NordVPN’s affordability and overall flexibility. If you need a 360-degree protection suite, NordVPN surpasses all VPNs you can imagine.
Do Brave VPN and NordVPN Store Logs?
We’ve established that NordVPN has stronger security than Brave VPN, but what about privacy? Do these VPNs store logs, and more importantly, how do they handle your private information? In short, neither Brave VPN nor NordVPN stores logs, and to prove that, they have a few third-party audits.
Brave VPN is US-based, while NordVPN’s jurisdiction is Panama.
We could argue which is better, but we believe it doesn’t matter, as long as the VPN has a genuine no-logs policy. Speaking of which, here’s what Brave VPN promises:

And now, let’s examine NordVPN’s privacy policy:

They’re similar, promising no logging of your IP address, DNS requests, browsing history, and other vital information. You can read more about NordVPN’s logging practices in our full review, and realize that it’s one of the least ‘intrusive’ VPNs. Besides, their third-party audits speak volumes.
Brave VPN has two, while NordVPN has three, from renowned PwC and Deloitte.
We also examined Brave VPN and NordVPN for stored information and detected only a few irrelevant tidbits for troubleshooting and maintenance. For instance, they’ll collect data about your simultaneous connections to enforce their limits. Other than that, they’re clean as a whistle.
We forgot to mention that Brave VPN doesn’t use RAM or diskless servers. NordVPN does, which are beneficial for privacy because of volatile memory, which erases all data with each server reboot.
Winner: Tie 🟰
It’s ultimately a tie, despite NordVPN’s RAM server use. Our tests have shown that both VPNs are equally privacy-friendly. Our deeper investigation has proven that neither had ever divulged user-related information to third parties and authorities, as was the case with many VPNs in the past.
Speed Tests: Which Service is Faster?
It’s time to analyze Brave VPN and NordVPN’s speeds and see which is faster.
However, before we serve our speed test results on a silver platter, let’s inject some sense. Our starting point was a non-VPN speed test. The results are below; it’s a 50/10 Mbps connection tested in Belgrade, Serbia, where we resided during the comparison. We also performed our tests on a Windows 11 computer.

With this test in place, we fired up both VPNs and tested them for three days in a row, three times each day, using server locations in the UK, the US, and Japan. Distant locations were prioritized to fully stress VPN services and learn their speed retention rates. Their protocol selections were set to Automatic.
With this setup, and speed tests performed on the desktop version of Speedtest.net, we achieved these results:
| NordVPN | Brave VPN | |
| DL Speed Retention | 82% | 60% |
| UL Speed Retention | 93% | 76% |
VPNs may decrease your internet speed, but some do it mildly. NordVPN is a prime example, while Brave VPN, with its underwhelming speed retention, won’t be ideal for bandwidth-hungry activities. Bear in mind, we used the best-case results for these comparisons.
Let’s look at another table with concrete speed test results:
| DL/UL Speed (UK) | DL/UL Speed (USA) | DL/UL Speed (Japan) | |
| NordVPN | 47.30/9.43 Mbps | 42.81/9.24 Mbps | 32.86/9.03 Mbps |
| Brave VPN | 35.97/9.30 Mbps | 19.75/8.07 Mbps | 26.57/8.54 Mbps |
The table above displays NordVPN’s superiority in all three tests. It’s a shame that Brave VPN couldn’t sustain at least 80% of our speeds on the UK server, as NordVPN and other best VPNs did. But there’s a reason for that, and it stems from Brave VPN’s 500 Mbps server speeds. NordVPN, in comparison, offers 10 Gbps.
Winner: NordVPN 🏆
However you look at it, Brave VPN doesn’t stand a chance against NordVPN. The Panamanian VPN dwarfed its opponent, offering outstanding performance and connection reliability, ideal for all bandwidth-hungry activities.
Streaming & Torrenting Comparison
We couldn’t leave you without streaming and torrenting tests. That’s why many people expect a VPN to do. So, are NordVPN and Brave VPN competent in these aspects? Answers lie beneath!
Streaming Test Results
Brave VPN’s streaming abilities are more disabilities.
After testing BBC iPlayer for at least fifty times, we couldn’t access it, no matter the browser, the server, or the device we used. We then used the same UK server to access Netflix UK, and while subscription prices were in British Pounds, we couldn’t unblock UK-only content. The same goes for the US library.

Brave VPN unblocked a few free channels with F1 live streams, but they had no anti-VPN measures and posed no challenge even for free VPNs. Noteworthy is that streaming quality was average, with a few hiccups and longer-than-expected load times.
But then, we fired up NordVPN and felt reborn!

This VPN worked with over twenty Netflix libraries, including the most popular ones. BBC iPlayer? It worked like a charm in our location! Other channels? The same! NordVPN’s browser extension was fantastic, with location spoofing that allowed us to unblock Pluto TV and access it from the Balkans.
Streaming quality was exceptional this time, and everything from Full HD to Ultra HD was buttery-smooth, with minor and extremely rare buffering.
Torrenting Experience
Torrenting is allowed in both VPNs, but we’d give NordVPN a slight edge.

The VPN offers dedicated P2P servers, with special attention to speed, security, and privacy. Moreover, they’re in every app, so you can initiate safe torrent downloads on a computer, tablet, or phone. We tested P2P and non-P2P servers and found they’re equally fast, making NordVPN versatile.

Brave VPN’s torrenting prowess can’t be disputed. While slower than NordVPN, it’s equally reliable and offers P2P on all servers. You just need to connect to the closest one, encrypt your traffic, and start downloading. Brave VPN’s straightforward app makes it a one-minute job, and it’s so satisfying.
Overall Winner: NordVPN 🏆
NordVPN is better for streaming and torrenting as a whole. Streaming services will easily be unblocked no matter your location, while torrenting, which works on all servers, will be much faster and more efficient. Brave VPN’s underwhelming streaming performance is unforgivable at this price.
Server Locations
At this price, you’d expect more servers from Brave VPN, but it currently offers only 300 in 20+ countries and 40+ locations. NordVPN has over 8,100 servers in 165+ locations, so it’s not even a fair comparison. It’s like comparing a Yugo to a Ferrari. They may be painted similarly, but even the paint quality differs!

On top of everything, NordVPN uses physical and virtual servers, allowing for a greater location span, even if these locations may seem unusual. For instance, NordVPN offers Indian servers. Brave VPN lacks them. The same goes for many African and South American locations that Brave lacks.

NordVPN’s servers have 10 Gbps ports. Brave VPN claims the same, but realistically offers 500 Mbps speeds. NordVPN has dedicated servers for:
- Double VPN
- Onion Over VPN
- Torrenting/P2P
- Dedicated IP
- Obfuscation
Brave VPN has none. Even if NordVPN had a smaller network, let’s say identical to Brave VPN, it would still defeat it. Its network quality is impeccable, particularly because of dedicated IP addresses that only a few VPNs offer in 2026.
Winner: NordVPN 🏆
All things considered, NordVPN trumps Brave VPN again, offering a sizeable, but also highly flexible and versatile server fleet. Look no further if you need a VPN with a robust, strategically designed server fleet in over 165 locations.
Bypassing Censorship: Which VPN Does It Better?
We tested Brave VPN in China (our testers, actually), and reported it won’t budge. Since it offers no settings to play around with, it’s incredibly difficult to get it to work. They tried the Smart Proxy Routing feature, but it also failed. So, with no hope on their hands, they switched to NordVPN.
We have a separate article on NordVPN and its performance in China.
There, we explained that it works, but it’s not an end-all-be-all solution. Obfuscated servers leverage OpenVPN TCP and provide stellar, but not ideal, performance. It works six to seven out of ten times, with satisfying speeds that sometimes take a nosedive and make the connection sluggish.
When it works, you can be sure you can enjoy gaming, watching content, and browsing social media. When it doesn’t, you can switch to another server and hope for the best. Still, NordVPN’s performance in China is expectedly solid, especially since the latest Great Firewall update that ‘killed’ most other VPNs.
Performance in other countries was stellar on both sides. Some of our team members in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey performed extensive tests and concluded that both VPNs worked regularly.
Winner: NordVPN 🏆
However, NordVPN took the round due to its slightly more convincing performance in China, thanks to obfuscated servers and the powerful NordWhisper protocol for navigating network filtering.
The Final Verdict
At the end of our NordVPN vs Brave VPN comparison for 2026, we’ll confirm what we said earlier. Brave VPN’s overall quality doesn’t justify the price, so even if you compare it to a less impressive VPN, you’ll see glaring weaknesses. In the case of NordVPN, it’s clear why the blue team is advantageous.
NordVPN is a jack of all trades and master of nearly all! Is starting price of under four quid and all the essential and advanced security features make it one of the most compelling cybersecurity packages on the planet. When you buy NordVPN, you get more than that, and this is vital in 2026.
When you splurge your hundred quid yearly on Brave VPN, you get that: a bare-bones VPN. With everything said and done, we can conclude that NordVPN is the ultimate choice for the money, and a vastly better investment than Brave VPN, which has yet to improve to even come close.
