How to Access Pornhub in 2026 (With or Without a VPN)

Disclaimer: This page is written for adults. Gizmodo supports efforts to keep explicit material away from minors. Rules differ by country and state, and in some countries pornography is illegal at any age; a VPN doesn’t change local law. Our interest is the privacy of legal adults, whose identity documents now pass through third-party companies with their own breach history.

Pornhub isn’t the same site everywhere anymore. In 25 US states, visitors see a block page. In Britain, France, and Australia, the site loads a restricted version with registration closed and the explicit catalog hidden. Several countries block porn sites by law, and some phones now filter adult sites by default.

Most of these limits trace back to Aylo, Pornhub’s owner, which withdrew or restricted its sites where strict age verification laws apply instead of collecting ID documents. Which version Pornhub shows depends on your IP address. A VPN replaces that address with one from the server’s country and encrypts your traffic, though it doesn’t change the law where you live. Here’s how to set up a VPN for Pornhub.

Setting Up a VPN for Pornhub

We tested Pornhub in October on servers in Canada, New York, and New Zealand. It loaded fully with the three VPNs we recommend. The steps here use NordVPN.

1. Subscribe to NordVPN and Install It

Choose a plan on NordVPN’s site, create an account with your email address, and confirm it. Every plan includes a 30-day money-back guarantee. NordVPN works on Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, and smart TVs. Install it, sign in, and enable the kill switch from the settings menu.

The kill switch halts traffic during any VPN dropout, keeping your home IP address private. Up to 10 devices can stay connected at once on one subscription.

2. Connect to a Server Where Pornhub Operates

Canada is the safest default. It has no age verification law for adult sites, and Pornhub loaded fully on Canadian servers in our tests. A bill on the subject, S-209, passed the Senate in April 2026 and was at second reading in the House of Commons in September 2026. From the US, a New York server works too and keeps your connection closer to home.

From Australia, New Zealand is the nearest country where Pornhub operates normally. Avoid servers in the UK, France, Australia, and the 25 US states Pornhub blocks. On those servers, Pornhub shows its block page or its restricted version.

3. Load Pornhub

Load Pornhub once the VPN shows a connection. If you visited the site from a restricted location before, clear its cookies first. Old session data can keep the restricted version on screen. With a Canadian IP address, the site shows the full catalog and account sign-up.

Where Pornhub Is Blocked or Restricted

Pornhub is blocked or limited in three kinds of places. Aylo withdrew it from most US states with age-check laws and restricted it in three countries. Governments that ban porn sites block it nationwide.

Aylo’s position is that ID checks on individual sites put adults’ documents at risk and push minors toward sites that ignore the law. It wants age checks to happen on the device instead, through Apple, Google, and Microsoft.

US States That Block Pornhub

Of the 27 states with age verification laws for adult sites, Pornhub is unavailable in 25. West Virginia and Iowa are the 2026 additions, with laws in force from June 12 and July 1.

Louisiana and Ohio are the exceptions. In Louisiana, Pornhub stays available and verifies visitors through LA Wallet, the state’s digital ID. Pornhub also stayed available in Ohio after that state’s law took effect in September 2025.

Sites outside Aylo’s network often stay available in these states with an account or age check, as xHamster does in Texas.

UK, France, and Australia: Restricted Pornhub

In these three countries, Pornhub still loads, but new accounts are closed and visitors without a qualifying account see no explicit videos.

• UK (from February 2, 2026): Accounts verified before the change kept access. Since May 5, 2026, adults whose iPhone or iPad passed Apple’s age check see the standard site. Our Pornhub UK guide has the details.
• Australia (from March 6, 2026): Pornhub shows safe-for-work videos only. On October 7, 2026, Aylo said access would return for age-confirmed Apple users. Our Pornhub Australia page covers Apple’s age confirmation there.
• France (from June 5, 2026): Pornhub returned with safe-for-work content after a year of blocks, while YouPorn and RedTube stayed unavailable. See our Pornhub France guide.

Aylo goes further in Australia with its other brands: RedTube, YouPorn, and Tube8 are blocked instead of restricted. Pornhub remains available in Italy and Germany, where recent court rulings went against the regulators.

In April 2026, the European Commission also issued preliminary findings that self-declared ages aren’t enough under the Digital Services Act. A final decision could change access across Europe.

Countries That Block Porn Sites

Some governments block porn sites across national networks, often under laws that make distributing porn a crime. China has blocked Pornhub since 2013. In 2018, India ordered its internet service providers to block 827 porn sites.

The Philippines blocked Pornhub in 2017 and Thailand in 2020, and Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE block porn sites broadly. The UAE sets fines starting at AED 500,000 for using a fraudulent IP address to commit or hide a crime.

Why Is Pornhb Not Working?

Most Pornhub problems come from your location or your device, and the message on screen tells you which.

Pornhub Is Not Currently Accepting New Account Registrations in Your Region

Pornhub shows this notice in the three countries where its restricted version applies. It depends on the country your IP address points to, and your account doesn’t change it. On a Perth server, we saw the notice next to a member login form.

On Canadian and New Zealand servers, the full site loaded instead. Connecting to a country without restrictions brings back the standard site. A server in one of those three countries shows the notice again.

Why Is Pornhub Making Me Log In?

In the UK and Australia, the explicit catalog is limited to accounts created before the restrictions began. In the UK, those accounts had to be age-verified, and iPhones and iPads that passed Apple’s age check also see the full site.

Pornhub shows other visitors a login form, and new registrations from those countries are closed. Accounts opened after the cut-off don’t change what the site shows from those countries.

The Restricted Website Message on iPhone

The restricted website message comes from Apple. Screen Time’s Limit Adult Websites setting blocks adult sites in Safari and names the site as restricted. In the UK, iOS 26.4 made this filter automatic for adults who haven’t confirmed their age. Apple applied a similar default in Australia in September 2026.

A VPN doesn’t change the filter, because it works on the device. Adults can confirm their age with Apple using a credit card in their own name or a scan of a passport or driver’s license. Debit and gift cards aren’t accepted. The filter can then be disabled in Screen Time.

Pornhub Not Loading With a VPN

If Pornhub still shows a block page or the restricted version with the VPN connected, try these fixes in order:

• Clear cookies and cached data for Pornhub, then reload the page.
• Check the server country. Servers in the UK, France, Australia, and the 25 blocked states show the same restrictions.
• Try a second server in Canada or New York if the first one doesn’t load.
• Update the VPN and your browser to the latest versions.

Can You Access Pornhub Without a VPN?

Yes, in two cases. Where Pornhub operates normally, no VPN is required. Where it’s restricted, adults can complete the age check the local rules allow. That means LA Wallet in Louisiana and Apple’s age confirmation on iPhone and iPad in the UK, with Australia announced next.

The usual alternatives are web proxies, Tor, DNS changes, and free VPNs. Here’s how they compare with a paid VPN:

Pornhub Proxy Sites

A web proxy loads a page on its own server and passes it to your browser. When we tried Hide.me’s web proxy, Pornhub’s homepage loaded, but the video player failed with a playback error. The company behind the proxy can also see every page you load.

Unofficial Pornhub proxy and mirror domains pose a bigger risk. Some serve phishing pages or unwanted downloads.

Tor Browser

Tor encrypts your traffic and passes it through three volunteer-operated relays. The country of the last relay decides which version of Pornhub you see, and Tor Browser’s standard settings don’t let you choose it. Video over Tor is slow.

Pornhub launched an official Tor site in 2020, but it used an older address format that Tor stopped supporting in 2021.

Free VPNs and DNS Changes

A free VPN changes your location and encrypts your traffic, but its limits are tight for video. PrivadoVPN’s free plan allows 10 GB a month and includes Canadian servers. Windscribe matches that 10 GB once you confirm your email. Proton VPN Free has unlimited data, though it assigns the server country automatically.

Our free VPN guide covers the safer free services. A DNS change leaves your IP address as it was, and Pornhub’s location check uses the IP address.

Pornhub, VPNs, and the Law

In most countries, using a VPN for Pornhub is legal for adults. US age verification laws place duties on websites, and none of them bans VPN use. Utah’s 2026 law went furthest: it treats people located in the state as local users whether or not they use a VPN. A federal court paused that provision on September 24, 2026.

In the UK and Australia, adults can legally watch porn, and the age-check rules apply to the companies. Australia’s eSafety Commissioner says its codes don’t prevent adults from accessing pornography.

Countries that ban porn are different. There, a VPN changes your location but leaves the law where it was, and viewing or distributing porn can lead to penalties.

Best VPNs to Access Pornhub

1. NordVPN: Best overall, with the top speeds in our server tests
2. Proton VPN: Best for blocking ads and trackers
3. ExpressVPN: Best for first-time VPN users, with automatic obfuscation

For a wider comparison, our best VPNs for Pornhub covers other services.

1. NordVPN: Best for Speed on Canadian Servers

NordVPN was the fastest of our three VPNs on New Zealand, Canadian, and New York servers, with Pornhub loading fully on every one of them. See our fastest VPNs for a broader speed comparison. Its servers keep data only in memory and wipe it at every reboot. Outside auditors have verified its no-logs policy.

On networks that restrict VPNs, obfuscated servers make NordVPN traffic look like regular web traffic. Double VPN encrypts your connection a second time through another server, and Next-Gen Antivirus filters malicious downloads and ads. The renewal rate is higher, and the 27-month plan locks in the discount for the longest term.

Plan differences are in our NordVPN review. NordVPN Basic is priced at $3.49 a month, and the 27-month term is paid upfront at $94.23. The renewal price is $139.08 for every later year.

2. Proton VPN: Best for Blocking Ads and Trackers

Pornhub and similar sites are ad-heavy, and Proton VPN’s NetShield blocked the most ads and trackers in our ad-blocking test. Its Canada and New York locations loaded Pornhub in full at speeds near NordVPN’s. The company operates under Swiss privacy law and publishes its apps’ code for public review.

Its no-logs policy is independently audited. Secure Core adds a first stop in Iceland, Sweden, or Switzerland. If the second server is compromised, your home IP address stays protected. Renewal brings a higher price, though Proton’s renewal rate is still the lowest of our three VPNs.

A 24-month Proton VPN Plus plan costs $2.99 a month, with $71.76 charged upfront and $83.88 due at every yearly renewal.

3. ExpressVPN: Best for First-Time VPN Users

ExpressVPN keeps setup to a minimum: install it, sign in, and connect with one button. It disguises VPN traffic automatically, and the browser extension controls the VPN from Chrome or Firefox. On servers in Canada and New York, Pornhub loaded fully, and speeds trailed NordVPN’s only slightly.

Its privacy policy and RAM-based TrustedServer design passed a KPMG audit. Our ExpressVPN review covers the audit in detail. Advanced settings are few, and people who like to tune their connection will prefer NordVPN. The first-term discount also ends at renewal, and the 28-month plan offers the longest discounted term.

Over 28 months, ExpressVPN Basic averages $2.99 monthly. You pay $83.72 at the start and $99.95 for every year after.

Conclusion

So how do you access Pornhub where it’s restricted? Some places offer a legal age check, such as LA Wallet in Louisiana or Apple’s age confirmation in the UK. Adults there can complete it. In other places, a VPN server in Canada or New York connects you to Pornhub as it operates there. We recommend NordVPN for that step.

It was the quickest in our speed tests, and its kill switch protects your home IP address during a dropout. Proton VPN and ExpressVPN loaded Pornhub on the same servers, and either one is a good alternative.

Proxies and Tor fall short for video, and local law applies whether or not you use a VPN. Our best VPNs for porn list compares services for other adult sites.
